Beryl's free-spiritedness stands in stark contrast to Sharon's rigidity and she challenged her every move. While Sharon wanted to mark her territory by welcoming Beryl with her signature gluten-free pies and a three-ring binder laying out the neighborhood's rules, Beryl returned them to her.To top it all off, Beryl suggested they cut down the old Maple tree festering between their properties, which had been a part of Sleepy Hollows since the very beginning. Sharon's animosity with Beryl was the talk of the neighborhood and Elsbeth was quite sure that she was the killer but she had a solid alibi. CCTV cameras proved that Sharon was preoccupied with her annual scarecrow display on her porch. While Beryl was being murdered, Sharon was spooking the kids on her porch.However, Elsbeth was quick to notice something strange with Sharon's scarecrow costume and a quick search of her garage revealed what. Detective Donnelly found a scarecrow dummy (an exact-looking replica of her costume) stashed in Sharon's garage, which even had a fingerprint of one of the kids. To seal the deal, Elsbeth also found traces of Beryl's DNA in Sharon's pipes (connected to her washing machine), which was a botched attempt to wash off the blood from her husband's scrubs.
