She completely overlooked the possibility of Coach W's involvement.
She did not believe that Coach W could also be involved in the case. In the beginning, Coach W’s alibi was strong, while Peyton refused to reveal the details of her alibi. This further caused her to be in the spotlight for getting the blame for the murder. As the episode progressed in Elsbeth Season 3, Elsbeth found the truth about Peyton’s alibi, proving that she was indeed not the murderer.
However, she also found a wiretapping device in the locker room of the players. She understood that Coach W was involved in all of it. He used the wiretapping device to eavesdrop on the conversations in the locker room. Through this, he found out that Dave was spreading misinformation about him. He got extremely angry. It caused him to lash out at Dave, killing him eventually.
