Emmy Rossum, Lola Petticrew, and Scoot McNairy are all set to appear in Hulu's upcoming thriller series, inspired by the 1987 film Black Widow.
The latest Hulu series is being developed by the popular American writer and producer Elizabeth Meriwether, also called Liz, whose notable works include New Girl, No Strings Attached, and Dying For S*x, to name a few.
In March 2025, Deadline reported that the Shameless star Emmy Rossum has been locked in to play one of the leading roles of the Hulu series inspired by the Debra Winger-starring film Black Widow. Rossum will play the protagonist role - a talented federal agent who uses unconventional methods to investigate a female serial killer who's an effortless impersonator. Some of Rossum's notable projects include The Phantom of the Opera, Cold Pursuit, Comet, and The Crowded Room, to name a few.

As per the latest reports by Variety, True Detective's Scoot McNairy and Bloodlands' Lola Petticrew have joined the upcoming Hulu series. Scoot McNairy will play a sharp yet weary NYPD Detective, Danny, in the Black Widow-inspired series. Even though the homicide detective looks sharp, he's an absolute emotional mess.
Apart from True Detectives, McNairy has also been part of several other notable projects, including East of Wall, Speak No Evil, Narcos: Mexico, Gone Girl, and Amor Fati.
Petticrew will play Catherine, the serial killer who's a master manipulator and a disguise specialist. Her trick? Marry wealthy men and murder them, and stage those as accidental deaths to get hold of their property. Some of Petticrew's notable projects include Say Nothing, Tuesday, Dating Amber, and A Bump Along the Way.

The official logline of the upcoming series reads,
"An FBI agent uses the secrets from a female serial killer's past to try and find her."
Brian Kirk, who was behind amazing projects like Brotherhood and Game of Thrones, will serve as both the director and the executive producer of the upcoming Hulu thriller series. Additionally, Rossum, Meriwether, Ron Bass, and Sara Moskowitz are set to be the executive producers, while Searchlight and 20th Television will produce the series.
