In season 37 episode 10, Brett Hamby and Mark Romain's journey on The Amazing Race came to an unpleasant end. Now, the two are sharing what went wrong. They had been middle-of-the-pack racers most of the time, but they were eliminated in the most recent leg due to a diversion error. They lost important time and a place in the finale because of the uncertainty, which was linked to a destination mix-up.
After he and Hamby were eliminated, Mark revealed, "There were two of the same address, 11 Council to Europe, and we triple-checked to make sure we were going to the right one." He added, "We somehow ended up getting directions to the wrong one."
As Mark clarified, some circumstances were just beyond their control, but the two had been fierce competitors against other teams with excellent coordination. The incorrect address set them back, even after they tried their hardest to confirm the location. Even though their composure and will to stick together were admirable throughout the race, they were unable to overcome a logistical blunder that ultimately led to their demise.
Address mix-up led to Brett and Mark’s elimination on The Amazing Race
The Amazing Race experience includes navigating foreign cities under pressure, but Brett Hamby and Mark Romain found that one detour in Strasbourg was too costly. The pair discussed how a geographical mix-up was a major factor in ending their journey just before the finals in a post-elimination interview. What started off as a small glitch swiftly turned into a mistake.
"It was a bunch of different buildings. We’re like, ‘OK, well this has to be in this complex. Where is it?’ And we finally realized, oh, it’s the other one," Brett said. "We did it to ourselves."
Even though they triple-checked the address, which was oddly located in two distinct locations, they still went to the incorrect one. In addition to costing them time, the delay had an impact on their motivation and frame of mind throughout the task. Mark admitted that they just weren't performing at their best that day.
Romain shared, "The race is a marathon, and you don’t wake up every day feeling like your best self, and you just have to show up how you show up." The Amazing Race star continued, "And that day, things were not clicking like they were every other day.”
Fans were moved by Brett and Mark's ability to accept responsibility and reflect gracefully, despite the fact that the error was unintentional. Their elimination wasn’t due to lack of effort or teamwork, just a twist of logistics and timing.
