Euphoria Season 3 reported budget makes it HBO’s most expensive project in recent times

Euphoria Season 3 has been a long time coming, and if the rumor mill is to be believed, the new season is going to be completely different from everything we've seen from the HBO show before. According to reports, the third season has a reported $200 million budget, making it one of the most expensive shows for the network.

Euphoria Season 2 premiered all the way back in January 2022, and the eight-episode series took the internet by storm. Since then, fans have been desperately waiting for an update on the third season, and several reasons contributed to a lot of delays, but according to reports, the show is currently in production. Here's everything we know about the seemingly most expensive HBO season to date.

Euphoria Season 3 might just be HBO's most expensive project to date

The second season of Euphoria ended with some explosive cliffhangers, from Lexi's controversial (and viral) play Our Life to the shootout at Fezco's. Rue also needs to resolve her pretty significant drug debt. It was confirmed in 2024 that the network was still committed to another season of the show, even if it meant some very big changes.

The show has always been different from anything else that has made its way to modern television. From its aesthetic to its themes, it has been solely based on its unique characters and the world they have to live in. According to reports, the first season crossed the $165 million mark for production costs. The success and popularity that the first season gathered made it more than worth it for the network.

So, when the second season went into production, this cost went up even higher, bringing it up to the $176 million mark. Therefore, as is par for the course, the third season, which might even be the final season according to reports, is set to take the characters in a completely new dimension, and so the cost rose even more, reaching the highest for any HBO show. The reported production cost for the third season is $200 million, higher than the previous seasons and higher than any other HBO show.

For Euphoria Season 3, most of the major actors, such as Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, and Colman Domingo, are reprising their roles. However, there are a few who will not be returning for the third season, such as Barbie Ferreira, Austin Abrams, and Storm Reid.

We also have some newcomers for the third season, as Grammy winner Rosalía and Marshawn Lynch, the NFL player turned actor who was seen in Bottoms. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Asante Blackk, Kadeem Hardison, Toby Wallace, Priscilla Delgado, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Anna Van Patten, and James Landry Hébert are also set to join the Euphoria Season 3 cast.

Additionally, there are also rumors that the new season involves a prolific time jump, which will remove the cast from their high-school setting and instead place them further ahead in their lives. There has been no confirmation regarding the time jump from HBO, but the actors have mentioned in different conversations that the third season is taking some big swings in terms of moving the characters out of the high school scene and making some big changes.

Nevertheless, with the highest budget for HBO, we can expect Euphoria Season 3 to exceed all expectations.
