Fezco - better known as Fez, is the kind of character who sneaks up on you. On the surface, he’s a drug dealer in Euphoria, the guy who supplies pills to Rue and others. But as the show unfolds, it’s impossible not to see the good heart buried under that tough, street‑smart exterior.

Fez is gentle in his own way, loyal to a fault, and protective of the people he loves...and that’s why the Euphoria Season 2 finale hit so hard. Seeing him lying on the floor, bleeding out as police swarmed his house, left fans stunned and desperate for answers. The big question was clear: Did Fez die?

Thankfully, the answer is no; Fez survives the bullet wound, but survival doesn’t mean he’s safe. He’s badly hurt, arrested, and left completely broken after losing Ashtray, his younger brother and closest companion. While his story was clearly being set up for more development...reality had other plans.

Angus Cloud, who played Fez with so much authenticity, tragically passed away in July 2023 at age 25 from an accidental overdose. With Season 3 delayed, Fez’s fate on‑screen is left frozen - but in the world of the show, Fez is still alive, just trapped in one of the darkest moments of his life. Let's explore this more.

What happened to Fezco in Euphoria?

The bloody night that changed everything

At the start of the finale, it seemed like things might finally go right for Fez; he had written a sweet note for Lexi and planned to show up at her play. It felt like a turning point for his character - a sign that he wanted something better for himself...but the night quickly spiraled into chaos.

Custer, who had been close to Fez, was secretly working with the police. Ashtray picked up on this betrayal and, in a fit of protective rage, stabbed Custer. Fez immediately knew they were in serious trouble - he tried to stay calm, helping cover up the mess while pleading with Ashtray to think clearly.

But Ashtray wasn’t about to back down - he locked himself in the bathroom with an arsenal of guns, completely ignoring Fez’s desperate cries to stop.

When the SWAT team burst through the door, everything fell apart; bullets flew in every direction. Fez, caught in the middle of the chaos, was accidentally shot in the stomach. Ashtray, still barricaded, kept firing until he was fatally gunned down.

By the time the gunfire stopped, Fez was bleeding heavily, in handcuffs, and in shock from watching his brother die right in front of him. The scene ended with Fez being dragged away alive, but in agonizing pain, physically and emotionally.

Fez survives, but life will never be the same

Even in that horrifying moment, Euphoria makes it clear that Fez is alive; he’s conscious, still moving, and able to make noise as the police drag him out. His survival wasn’t left ambiguous - and the creators wanted the audience to know that his story wasn’t over yet.

But living through that night came at an enormous cost...Ashtray’s death was the most devastating part for Fez; because Ashtray wasn’t just his partner in crime, he was family - the little brother Fez had raised and protected like his own.

Losing him so suddenly left Fez drowning in guilt and grief, especially because Fez had tried so hard to prevent that outcome. The legal fallout was just as grim, as Fez’s fingerprints were all over the crime scene.

With Custer dead and evidence tampering on top of years of drug dealing, Fez was almost certainly looking at serious charges. Even if he didn’t kill anyone directly, his involvement in the events of that night made him a prime target for prosecution. And then there’s the emotional weight of what could have been...

Throughout Season 2 of Euphoria, Fez’s bond with Lexi became one of the show’s most wholesome relationships. He was finally opening up to someone who saw the good in him, so seeing him arrested before he could even deliver that sweet letter to her made the finale sting even more.

A character fans weren’t ready to lose

What makes Fez’s ending so painful is that he wasn’t just a side character...he represented something different in Euphoria.

Unlike the show’s more reckless characters, Fez had his own moral code - he tried to protect Rue from herself when her addiction spiraled out of control, showing he genuinely cared about her well‑being; and he cared deeply for Ashtray and looked out for people in his own quiet way.

Interestingly, Fez wasn’t always supposed to stick around this long. Early drafts for Euphoria Season 2 actually planned for Fez to die in the finale, but this was changed at the last moment, leading to Ashtray’s death instead. In interviews, cast members like Javon Walton confirmed this last‑minute switch.

But Angus Cloud’s incredible performance and the overwhelming fan love for Fez changed that decision. So, keeping him alive allowed Euphoria viewers to see a more layered side of Fez in Season 2 - someone who could love, dream, and hope for a better life.

What happens next?

This is where reality steps in...Angus Cloud tragically passed away in July 2023, leaving fans heartbroken; and HBO even added a tribute to him after his death. Season 3 had been announced, but production delays and the loss of Cloud mean Fez’s story will probably never be continued on‑screen.

Within the world of Euphoria, though, Fez is still alive; he’s not dead, but he’s in the middle of his darkest chapter - grieving Ashtray, facing prison, and completely uncertain about what comes next.

Fans have speculated endlessly about where his story could have gone. Would Lexi have stood by him? Could he have found a way out of the drug world? Would he have tried to redeem himself? Sadly, those answers are likely to remain a mystery forever.

Why Fez’s fate feels so raw

Fez mattered because he was proof that even in a world full of bad choices and dangerous paths, people can still care deeply. He wasn’t perfect...far from it - but he had a heart, and that’s what made fans connect to him so much.

His ending, while tragic, stays true to the tone of Euphoria - it reminds viewers that in this world, even good people often face brutal consequences. The fact that his story remains unfinished only makes it more haunting; Fez is alive, but he’s a broken man staring down an uncertain future.

For many Euphoria fans, that unresolved arc hurts the most; we wanted to see him heal, maybe even find redemption...instead, we’re left with a snapshot of a man who survived - but at a devastating cost.

Conclusion

Fezco doesn’t die in the Season 2 finale; he survives the gunshot but is left bleeding, handcuffed, and shattered by Ashtray’s death. His future is full of uncertainty, and the real‑life loss of Angus Cloud means his story will never reach a proper conclusion.

In Euphoria’s world, though, Fez is still out there - alive, grieving, and stuck in a life that’s only getting harder.
