A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which serves as a sequel to Game of Thrones and is set a century before it, is scheduled to premiere on HBO on January 16, 2026. The show will follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Aegon Targaryen.

Ahead of its release, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been renewed for a second season, which will be released in 2027.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms renewed for Season 2

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is going to be set in the time between Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. Ser Duncan belongs to the time of Westeros when it was ruled by King Daeron II and will take Prince Aegon Targaryen, or Egg as he knows him, as his squire. The show, as posted by HBO on Instagram, has been renewed for Season 2.

HBO revealed that for the next three years, something or other from the land of Westeros is going to be on our screens. In 2026, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 will be released in January, and House of the Dragon Season 3 is going to be released in the summer. In 2027, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 will be released, and in 2028, House of the Dragon will return for Season 4. According to Deadline, Francesca Orsi, the Head of Drama Series and Films at HBO, said,

“We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the Game of Thrones universe,”

She continued,

“Together, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s universe continues to be. In January, I think audiences will be delighted by the inspiring underdog tale of Dunk and Egg that George and Ira Parker have captured so beautifully. And this summer, House of the Dragon is set to ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet.”

No other details about Season 2 have been revealed, and thus, all we know about the show so far is limited to Season 1. The series, in general, has the following logline:

“A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros, a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

The cast of the show includes Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, aka Dunk, Dexter Sol Ansell as Prince Aegon Targaryen, aka Egg, Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, Sam Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen, Edward Ashley as Ser Steffon Fossoway, Henry Ashton as Prince Daeron, Youssef Kerkour as Steely Pate, Daniel Monks as Ser Manfred Dondarrion, Shaun Thomas as Raymun Fossoway, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor as Plummer, and Danny Webb as Ser Arlan of Pennytree.

The show has been created by Ira Parker and George R. R. Martin, who are also executive producers on the show, along with Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw. The production companies behind the show are Fevre River Packet Co., Bastard Sword, Grok! Television, and HBO Entertainment. It is too early for HBO to release any information regarding Season 2, but stay tuned if you'd like to be updated.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will premiere on HBO on January 18, 2026, and Season 2 of the show will be released in 2027.
