The Originals dropped us right in the middle of a world full of danger and magic. The series, a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, is all about the big names. 1. The Original Vampires (The Mikaelsons)
At the very top in The Originals is the Mikaelson family - the strongest and the very first vampires ever. Among Klaus, Elijah, Rebekah, Kol, and Finn, Klaus is way scarier than the rest since he is not just a vampire but also a werewolf. The others? Still crazy strong, super smart, and they have lived forever. The Mikaelsons are almost impossible to kill. Only a rare white oak stake can end them.
The most significant part is that the strongest witches have to team up if they want to go against them. Klaus can wipe out packs of werewolves or vampires like it’s nothing. Honestly, the Mikaelsons are totally at the top, no contest.
2. The Upgraded Original vampire (Marcel Gerard)
Marcel Gerard started as Klaus’s adopted son, but after drinking Lucien’s serum, he became an Upgraded Original vampire. This made him stronger than the Mikaelsons, and his bite could even kill Originals. Klaus and Elijah couldn’t beat him in a straight fight, they had to use tricks.
Marcel dominated New Orleans. He could rule over vampires, werewolves, as well as witches. However, the Mikaelsons had something he did not: those years of experience. This is why he is just a step below them in power. Nevertheless, as an Upgraded Original, he is one of the strongest guys in The Originals.
3. Witches (Especially the ancestors and harvest girls)
Witches weren’t tough like vampires or werewolves in The Originals. But the powers of Davina, Esther and Freya could hurt an entire group of supernaturals. The Ancestors could perform big magic, like cursing the Originals or tampering with things in New Orleans.
Freya was able to use blood magic and perform time spells and dark rituals. She could keep Klaus trapped in a dream, and she could even make him disappear for a while. Witches could do a lot, honestly. They were some of the scariest people you could run into in The Originals.
4. Hybrids (Vampire-Werewolf mix)
Hybrids in The Originals were super rare and strong. Klaus was the first real hybrid, and he left an impact in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. Hybrids were fast, strong, and healed quickly like vampires, but also had werewolf power and anger.
They didn’t get hurt by sunlight, vervain, or wooden stakes. Hybrids were tied to Klaus because of the sire bond, so they listened to him. When the bond broke, they acted wild and were hard to control.
5. Werewolves (Especially Alphas and Crescent Wolves)

8. The Hollow (Inadu)
The Hollow in The Originals is simply terrifying, and unlike any other monster. She is an old, wicked spirit who can enter people’s bodies, kill with a thought and bring the dead people to life. She loves pain and death.
That is how she gets stronger. The Mikaelson family had to team up to oppose her. She is no ordinary vampire or witch, she is bad. Even when they beat her, they never could quite break her. She is almost impossible to stop.
Regular Vampires Surprised Viewers, Too
Regular vampires aren’t weak. They are tough, fast, and, to some extent, can manipulate minds. That makes them terrifying in a fight. Some of the old ones, like Tristan and Lucien before they got their strength, had been super clever and sneaky as well.
However, sunlight burns them, vervain hurts and if you stick a wooden stake into their heart, they die quickly. So, they can’t do everything. There are still a lot of them in New Orleans, and they would be the primary members of the vampire factions that you see on the show.
