Cast returns home after 20 years

The actors of Everybody Loves Raymond walked back to the reproduced set of Ray and Debra's living room for the first time since 2005. The production team worked on all the minute details: from the addition of the suitcase left on the stairwell to the dent in the freezer door. The audience claimed that they were being brought back to this world they were fond of.

The emotional return to this familiar space reminded everyone why this show became so important within television history and in people's lives!

David Letterman reveals how he discovered Romano

In the wake of the reunion, David Letterman also revealed how he discovered Ray Romano! In recorded interviews, Letterman talked about Romano's 1995 appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman, and immediately had a hunch that Romano could be the star of a comedy show, and set up a "blind date" with Phil Rosenthal.

Everybody Loves Raymond, which became the show's title, was said muttered by his brother to Raymond, which he ended up citing casually during his meeting with Phil Rosenthal. The viewers were made aware of the fact that the show developed from real-life events, individuals, and experiences.

Cast shares their favorite show episodes

The cast also shared their own personal favorite episodes from the 9-year catalogue of Everybody Loves Raymond, and recited stories about why those episodes mattered so much.

Ray Romano decided on "Talk to Your Daughter," in which he tried to give his daughter the all-important birds-and-the-bees talk. Patricia Heaton chose "Baggage," which includes a comic standoff between Ray and Debra.

Brad Garrett named two favorites, one of them being "She's the One." Each of their choices revealed something special about working on Everybody Loves Raymond. For Phil Rosenthal, the annual flashback episodes were a favorite.

These stories prove that Everybody Loves Raymond created moments that have stayed with the cast forever.

Remembering cast members who passed away

The reunion special dedicated some considerable time to the memory of three cast members who have passed away since Everybody Loves Raymond concluded. Ray Romano and Phil Rosenthal remembered Doris Roberts and Peter Boyle. Romano recalled how Peter Boyle had merely whispered an encouragement during the pilot, which had deeply moved him.

Over one hundred actresses auditioned for the role of Marie in Everybody Loves Raymond, but none came close to Doris Roberts. The cast also discussed Sawyer Sweeten, who died in 2015. Madylin and Sullivan Sweeten spoke about their brother and shared recovery information. There would never be a revival out of respect for the departed.

Real-life stories behind the show's episodes

Phil Rosenthal said that 90% of what was on Everybody Loves Raymond really occurred in his or Ray Romano's, or the writer's lives. Rosenthal spoke about how he wrote the pilot episode by having a Fruit of the Month Club gift subscription. He had actually done this to his own parents and used their reaction.

The cast spoke about how Rosenthal based characters on his own family. One of the writers said he recorded over his wedding videotape with an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond. These candid revelations conveyed to the audiences worldwide why the show seemed so realistic and endearing.
