Supacell premiered on Netflix in June 2024 and proved to be an instant hit with the audience. Creator Rapman was also pleasantly surprised by the success of the show, which belongs to a genre already overcrowded with big names like Marvel and DC.
The official synopsis of Supacell, as per Rotten Tomatoes, reads,
“In South London, a group of normal people suddenly develop superpowers, and the only apparent connection between them is that they are all Black; as they deal with the impact of their powers on their daily lives, one man must bring them together.”
Given the kind of success that Supacell received, it was renewed for a second season, and talking about how things are going to level up in the next season, Rapman said on the BAFTA Television Awards red carpet:
“It gets dark, that's all I can say! It gets really, really dark. If you followed season one and you saw how things ended, the emotions are just... everything's running higher now.”
With the creator hyping the upcoming season, fans can expect to see things getting more intense than in the first season.
Supacell creator plans to make a three-part series out of the story
While Rapman was not certain of the kind of success his series would get, he had already planned Supacell as a three-part story. Being a creative person, it is only natural that he had the whole thing figured out inside his head even before the show was renewed for a second season.
The ending of Supacell Season 1 confirmed the possibility of the story being expanded, as it was revealed that there were more superpowered beings than originally shown. Talking about how he envisioned the show, Rapam said:
“For the beginning of the show, I always tell everyone that season 1 of Supacell to me is like Batman Begins. It's just beginning. You've got to see where it goes next to see who these people really are.”
He further added that before season 1 had premiered:
“I suppose we have to see how season 1 performs, but I know I've very much made clear that I want to do three seasons minimum. I've got a three-season story in my head. [I'm] not saying it can't go over. But right now I know where it goes to. I know where... what the story is from up to season 3.”
With the promise of an intense season 2 and the possibility of a third season, times are exciting for the Supacell fans.
Supacell can be streamed on Netflix.
