The question of whether the series is returning has finally been done for the fans of Law & Order: Criminal Intent for some time now. Unfortunately, Law & Order: Criminal Intent is not getting a US reboot as of now. However, Canadian fans have a reason to be excited as Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent Season 2 is set to premiere in 2025.

Since the lead star of this popular series Detective Robert Goren, Vincent D'Onofrio has stated publicly to re-up for another season or mini-series episodes and even approached the original creator, Dick Wolf, to make it happen, nothing official has been announced about a US reboot.

But much is happening with the Canadian version of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. It's a development that continues the investigation by the Law & Order brand of high-profile crime, with a twist: in this case, regional.

With this news, fans are left wondering whether the original series will be revived—or will we have to be happy with the Canadian version?

Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent premiered in February 2024. It was a new iteration with a fresh spin on the Law & Order template. It had been developed by the producing team of Cameron Pictures, CityTV, and Lark Productions, per a report by Deadline.

This 10-episode series looked into an elite squad that probes crime and corruption of the most elite nature in the city of Toronto. The production was filmed in Toronto, Ontario, with a cast of locals there, including Aden Young, Kathleen Munroe, and K.C. Collins.

Among the creators were Tassie Cameron of Rookie Blue, as well as Dick Wolf, the genius behind the Law & Order universe. The show promised to stay within the classic investigative structure but in the peculiar criminal landscape of Toronto.

The show will feature all from cold cases to current serial killers, which are first season reports by IMDb. As such, in one titled 'Three Points,' detectives would be hot on the heels of a serial killer targeting celebrities in the music world.

Centered on psychological thrillers, Law & Order Toronto appears as one of the most dominant programs within the rising television landscape in Canada. It has sparked buzz due to the strong cast and creative team and is scheduled to premiere the second season in 2025.

However, Law & Order: Criminal Intent fans in the United States can't wait to know whether such a revival could be possible on their side of the border too.

A Canadian version is out and hopes for a U.S. revival of Law & Order: Criminal Intent are still alive. This is largely because of Vincent D'Onofrio, who has clarified he wants to return. He is the actor, who played Detective Goren for 10 seasons.

As D'Onofrio revealed in an interview with TVLine in June 2023, he was campaigning for Dick Wolf for a limited series or special episodes. He even pleaded with the fans, asking them to join his campaign for a comeback.

“It’s a great part... Look, Dick, seven, eight, nine episodes would be great,” D’Onofrio said during an appearance at ICCCon in Nashville.

His co-star, Kathryn Erbe, who portrayed Detective Alexandra Eames, gave the potential comeback a thumbs-up. Speaking on the show with love, she addressed fans and even industry insiders who have been rallying for a revival.

Though both the actors and fans are positive about a Law & Order: Criminal Intent revival, Dick Wolf hasn't moved an inch to revive this long-running show yet.

The American Law & Order: Criminal Intent ran from 2001 to 2011. It was successful with its run for 10 years. Its cast included Chris Noth, Jeff Goldblum, and Eric Bogosian. Law & Order: Criminal Intent portrayed the psychological aspects of criminal investigation and the minds of criminals and detectives.

It certainly leaves a hole within the present-day schedules of the Law & Order franchise, which is booming with Law & Order, SVU, and Organized Crime. Official word of a revival has never been seen, but D'Onofrio's efforts paired with the success of the Law & Order series set an open door.

According to Deadline in 2023, industry insiders felt it was more a question of when, rather than if, the show would return to screens. This is particularly true given its popularity and the continued success of other franchise spin-offs.
