If you wish to freeze time, pick your target, and fire in slow motion. Fallout Season 2 is about to make that a reality. Amazon Prime Video's adaptation of Bethesda's post-apocalyptic franchise is bringing the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System (better known as VATS) into live-action for the first time. Hopefully, it will be as chaotic and satisfying as we have been manifesting.Speaking to Empire Magazine for its December issue, showrunner Graham Wagner spilled the Nuka-Cola beans! "In this moment, we are giving Lucy her first V.A.T.S. shot, where time freezes. We keep pushing her as she gradually acclimatises to the wild, wild west of the Wasteland."Now this VATS debut will come during an action-packed sequence in which Lucy and The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) face off against a gang of mutant Elvis impersonators (aka The Kings) near the gates of New Vegas. The moment reportedly slows down time just as Lucy fires the final shot, with the camera following her bullet into her target's head. How will Fallout Season 2 bring VATS to life? View this post on Instagram Instagram PostAdapting VATS into live-action was always a challenge. It's a mechanic that works beautifully in a video game but might just feel out of place in a live-action drama. How could they justify characters not using it every five minutes? In the games, VATS consumes an energy resource and needs time to recharge. So, it can't be spammed, but Wagner and his team seem aware of that pitfall. This understanding suggests that Lucy's first use will be more of a milestone.RELATED: Check out the new look of Lucy and The Ghoul from Fallout Season 2There's also a strong narrative angle here. Lucy's gradual mastery of VATS could symbolize her growing ruthlessness in the Wasteland. Thus, the more she adapts, the less "Vault dweller" and the more "survivor" she becomes, right?Fallout Season 1 was in California, Season 2 will be in New VegasBeyond VATS, Season 2 will also take fans to New Vegas. Quite obviously, this name instantly lights up every Fallout fan's Pip-Boy. Why, you ask? That's because this city of irradiated sin was first introduced in the 2010 game Fallout: New Vegas, developed by Obsidian Entertainment. In the show, New Vegas is said to be a sprawling desert metropolis. It's going to be filled with power-hungry warlords, gamblers, and the kind of radioactive showgirls only Fallout could dream up. As Lucy continues her search for her father after what she learned in the Season 1 finale, it turns into both an obstacle course and an alleyway packed with clues.Season 2 is ready to amp up its fusion of absurdity and artistry with the introduction of VATS and an unfamiliar territory to be discovered. If we trust Wagner's playful tone, the follow-up could go nuclear (pun intended), as the first was hailed for its dark humor and harsh criticism of society.Fallout Season 2 will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on December 17, 2025, and new episodes will drop weekly till February 4, 2026. You can stream it on Prime Video via smart TVs, Fire TV, and the Prime Video app.
