Fallout Season 2 introduces the viewers to the Commonwealth Brotherhood in the second episode, and it appears that they are set to play a pivotal role this season.

When it comes to the post-apocalyptic world, it is difficult to define states and their boundaries because the country no longer exists. So, there are names given to regions, such as New Vegas or the Commonwealth.

So, the Commonwealth Brotherhood referred to in the second season is actually one of the Brotherhood's chapters, situated in and controlling the Commonwealth. The specific geographic area being referred to is New England and Boston, a major focus of the action in Fallout 4.

Here's how the Commonwealth Brotherhood could play a major role in the second season.

Fallout Season 2 introduces the Commonwealth Brotherhood as a dynamic piece of the narrative

When Aaron Moten's Maximus delivered the cold fusion technology to his chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel, he appeared to be the biggest hero within his Knights of San Fernando. However, Fallout Season 2 soon reveals that Maximus has no idea what Michael Cristofer's Elder Cleric Quintus has in store for the cold fusion technology.

The latest episode of Fallout Season 2 finds Quintus getting together with the leaders of all the factions of the Brotherhood. It is soon revealed that he planned to orchestrate a civil war against the Commonwealth Brotherhood by getting all of the factions together against the Commonwealth. The rest of the leaders of different factions are hesitant about Quintus' approach because they think that the Commonwealth is too strong to be defeated, even with all the factions coming together.

This hesitation stems from the fact that the Commonwealth Brotherhood is one of the most dominant factions in the Brotherhood. Fans of the games are well aware that Fallout 4 goes into many details about the history of the Commonwealth Brotherhood and how they ended up as the most powerful chapter after defeating the Institute (in a few of the endings of the game). Prime Video's Fallout Season 2 does not establish any historical background about the Commonwealth Brotherhood.

Nevertheless, the faction leaders are unsure of Quintus' plan, convinced that he's being delusional and ultimately suicidal, until he reveals the cold fusion technology, bringing some balance to the dynamic of the Brotherhoods. Having access to unlimited energy through the cold fusion technology does put the other factions on somewhat more equal ground to the Commonwealth.

Just as the factions seem to gain some belief, in walks a representative from the Commonwealth itself, played by Kumail Nanjiani's Xander Harkness. Xander's entry into Fallout Season 2, just as a civil war seemed to be brewing, proves exactly why the other faction leaders were hesitant to go up against the Commonwealth.

Adding to that, the fact that, per the games, Fallout 4 found the Commonwealth defeating the Institute, so they also have access to all types of technology owned by them. If Prime Video's Fallout Season 4 were to consider the canon version of the events, even the gigantic battle mech Liberty Prime could play into the action, making the Commonwealth Brotherhood a dangerous foe.
