Are there shows you love that you think deserve a special award, probably an Emmy, for the way they have touched the lives of viewers for years? Well then, your wish is coming true, because the Primetime Emmy Awards has just introduced a new category of awards called the Legacy Award to honor the shows that have had a

“a profound and lasting impact”

on viewers.

In order to be eligible for the award, a show needs to have a total of sixty episodes or more and should have at least five seasons. Moreover, it has to be a show that had a great impact on not only audiences but society as a whole, and addressed topics that are still relevant. Both running shows and shows that are no longer runner will be eligible for this award.

When Pop Base (@PopBase) reported this on X, asking fans who they think should be awarded the Legacy Award at the Emmy 2026, fans eagerly shared whom they would nominate.

Shows most nominated by fans for the Emmy Legacy Award

Since this is the first time the Primetime Emmy Awards has introduced a category like this, fans have eagerly expressed which shows they think are deserving of the award. It is to be noted that these are just fans expressing their opinions, not the real nominations. The actual nominations for the award will be decided by the Special Awards Committee or board of governors of the Television Academy, or by letters sent to them by industry members or the general public (but as far as we can tell, the letters have to be convincing enough).

One of the most talked about shows in response to Pop Base's posts is Breaking Bad, the AMC show that ran for five seasons, consisting of 62 episodes that aired from January 2008 to September 2013. X users like Kh Reddy (@KhReddy2025) nominated the show with the post that said,

"Breaking Bad — iconic storytelling and lasting impact..."

Technically, the show qualifies for the award by just two episodes, and speaking about impact, it is one of those shows still talked about and watched. During its run, the show received 16 Primetime Emmy Awards, and there's a good chance of it winning the Legacy Award as well.

The Office, the sitcom that ran for nine seasons, consisting of 201 episodes and aired on NBC from March 2005 to May 2013, is also one of the shows that fans nominated the most. The show won five Primetime Emmy Awards during its run and is one of the most celebrated sitcoms in the history of television, binged by fans worldwide even today.

X user, Feral (@FeralOnChain), is one of the many fans who nominated The Office for the Legacy Award. The user replied to Pop Base's post by saying,

THE OFFICE

clearly expressing their excitement.

The other show which is the most nominated right now is Stranger Things, which just ended with its fifth season on New Year's Eve. While the show is an extremely popular and successful one, it does not qualify for the Legacy Award because it has a total of 42 episodes across five seasons. A lot of X users, whether aware or unaware of the eligibility rules, have nominated the show for the award, mostly with pictures and videos, which speaks volumes for the show's general impact on audiences.

For instance, X user, Kana (@Kanatunga), enthusiastically nominated the show by posting an image of the show's final season with the caption,

#StrangersThings5

The Walking Dead, which ran for eleven seasons consisting of 177 episodes that aired on AMC from October 2010 to November 2022, is another show fans have heavily nominated for the Legacy Award. During its run, the show won two Primetime Emmy Awards, but its success is defined by its storytelling and how it is still a show celebrated by fans worldwide.

X user Big Popz (@BigPopz72) is among the many fans who nominated The Walking Dead for the Legacy Award by posting a GIF of Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan in the show, with the caption,

Walking Dead..

Other shows like Grey's Anatomy, Modern Family, and Friends were also nominated for the Emmy Legacy Award by a lot of X users, which shows the beautiful impact several television series were able to, and are still able to have on audiences, their emotions, cultures, and societies.
