Stranger Things Season 5 on Netflix ended with episode 8, which aired on New Year's Eve, but fans are not over it yet. The ending got mixed reactions, as many viewers loved the emotional closure, and some felt that something about it was off. Almost like it is too good to be true.

What happens with such endings is that they cause discomfort and several fan theories across the internet. Soon enough, the audience rewatched the finale season and spotted mistakes and even tried to identify easter eggs with screenshots, freeze frames, and slowed-down clips. Similarly, one such theory about Morse code spread among fans.

In the final episode, many noticed stacks of cassette tapes placed behind Robin Buckley. It was initially ignored as another prop, but as viewers began mapping the tape arrangement as dots and lines, which resembled Morse code. They deciphered the code, and it said "U did not stop me."

The decoded Morse phrase instantly raised alarms, and fans were speculating about the possibilities all over again. We know that Joyce's was the final blow to Vecna after Eleven and the group took him down. But now, fans have second thoughts about Vecna still being out there.

The speculations arise as many claimed that Stranger Things has previously used coded clues quite early in the show. Many agreed that the choice of tapes was intentional, while some pushed the fact that it was nothing but a coincidence. Either way, the debate drew more attention to the theory.

From background clues to a secret website

The next thing fans did was follow additional clues online, giving a new turn to the theory. A Stranger Things fan account shared a coded message in French, which translated to “Where is he hiding from us?”

Many followed the message and ended up on a strange website called november61987.com. Yes, the date that got Stranger Things fans hooked. On the site, visitors reported a red digital countdown and the words “Do you believe?' with an interactive button, “i believe.”

The Conformity Gate Theory

This led to another bigger theory about Conformity Gate, which is almost like a modern ARG. TikTok creators posted breakdowns, reaction videos, and countdown updates while X and Reddit threads tracked every second on the timer.

Some fans are convinced that the countdown is for a secret Episode 9. Many others think it could imply a Stranger Things spin-off.

Why does the theory matter, even if it is not real?

The bottom line is that whether the scene was planned or not, the Morse code hunt has revived interest in the series, as many even started watching the series for the first time. Old fans feel involved again as they rewatch the seasons, hunting for clues. But again, not everyone is convinced about the theory.

Fair enough, because usually, fan theories in the past have turned out to be hoaxes. So, where do we stand now? Officially and unfortunately, the series is over, and there has been no announcement or teasers from the Duffers or Netflix about Episode 9, or season renewal. But the creators have confirmed that a spin-off is on the way.
