FBI: International Season 4 has aired its final episode, which also served as the series finale, as the police procedural drama was canceled by CBS a few months ago. Since the cancellation happened abruptly, the finale was not expected to tie up all the loose ends, and that is exactly what happened.
Nevertheless, the episode, titled Gaijin, handed an action-packed final mission to the team as Wes Mitchell collaborated with a Japanese detective to track down a serial killer who was wreaking havoc internationally.
Meanwhile, the finale also touched upon who finally got the promotion between Vo and Raines, but the show unfortunately ended without revealing their fates. Here is the complete FBI: International Season 4 ending explained.
FBI: International Season 4 ending explained: Wes Mitchell and Reiko Isokawa team up for a mission
The final episode of FBI: International takes the team to Tokyo, where Agent Wes Mitchell works with local officer Reiko Isokawa to stop a dangerous serial killer. Their investigation hits a wall when a new victim, an American hostess named Heather, disappears.
A cab driver named Lloyd Acuff becomes the main suspect in the case. He plays it cool during questioning and denies everything. He acts like an average guy and even tells a creepy joke. However, his past actions and weird online posts suggest that he is hiding something.
Back in Budapest, the Fly Team helps with the case. Amanda is able to track Lloyd’s online activities, and Wes and Reiko eventually reach a woman named Risa, whom the killer once targeted. Even though she never pressed charges, she kept her bloodied dress from that night with her.
With this evidence and Lloyd’s DNA from a glass, Wes and Reiko finally get a search warrant against him. When they reach his apartment, they find it empty but get proof that the killer has targeted more than 50 victims.
FBI: International Season 4 ending explained: A race against time to track down Lloyd
As the investigation goes on, Wes is told he has just 12 hours to leave Japan, but he decides not to give up. With Superintendent Kubo’s help, the Fly Team taps into the Tokyo CCTV system, which helps them trace Lloyd.
Wes eventually catches him, concerned about Heather’s life. So the agent tells Lloyd that he will let him go if he tells him about Heather’s whereabouts. In exchange, Lloyd asks for a cyanide pill that he had hidden in a button.
Wes ultimately finds Heather and returns the button to Lloyd. But the killer is shocked to find out that the agent had kept the poison with him. On leaving Japan, Wes motivates Reiko, who has been suspended from the police.
FBI: International Season 4 ending explained: Fly Team’s future is left hanging
While Wes is chasing down the killer, the rest of the Fly Team is dealing with their own issues in FBI: International Season 4 Episode 22. Cameron Vo and Andre Raines are both up for a promotion to the GS-14 rank. It is a big career move, and they are both nervous as they wait for the decision.
They hold hands as the video call comes in, which is supposed to tell them who got the promotion, but the show ends without the revelation. Even though the series ended without a proper conclusion, the finale has some emotional and some high-octane moments that make up for a decent ending.
