Amazon sets filming schedule for live-action adaptation of God of War

The live-action adaptation of the action-adventure was revealed to be in negotiations in 2022 until Prime Video was revealed to be the home for the upcoming live-action adaptation.
Fans of the game have been buzzing with excitement since the update was announced and have been looking forward to news about the filming. However, it wasn't until very recently that an update about the filming was revealed.
According to reports, filming for the live-action adaptation of the PlayStation game franchise is set to begin in March 2026 in Vancouver. Casting is still underway for the live-action remake, but Ronald D. Moore from Electric Dreams, Outlander, and For All Mankind will be serving as showrunner for God of War.
What will the live-action adaptation adapt in God of War
In a conversation with IGN during the San Diego Comic-Con, Moore revealed that they are set to adapt the 2018 game from the franchise, which will follow Kratos after he completes his revenge against Zeus and hangs up his weapons forever, instead choosing to settle down with his wife and son.
However, in a tragic development, his wife dies, and he embarks on a dangerous adventure with his estranged son to fulfill her final wish. The final wish is that Kratos and their son, Atreus, scatter her ashes after her death from the peak of the Nine Realms.

On this journey to fulfill his late wife's last wish, Kratos encounters many mythological figures from Norse mythology. Throughout this epic quest, Kratos teaches his son how to battle, and their bond is continually tested as they battle new monsters and even gods.
Additionally, a list of the writers involved in the writers' room behind God of War has also been released. Stephanie Shannon, Narendra K. Shankar, and Joe Menosky, who've worked with Moore on For All Mankind, will be joining. Matthew Graham, who has previously worked with Moore on Electric Dreams, will also be joining them. Additionally, Tania Lotia from The Witcher and The Mighty Nein will also be joining the writers' room, and finally, Marc D. Bernadin from Star Trek: Picard and The Continental is also involved as a writer.
Video game adaptations have been on the rise recently, more so after the unprecedented success of other adaptations such as The Last of Us and The Witcher, as well as Paramount's Halo and Peacock's Twisted Metal.
Only time will tell if the Prime Video adaptation of God of War manages to soar to the heights that the PlayStation game has managed to.
