Amazon MGM Studios' romantic drama series Off Campus has added another cast member to its list, who is none other than Shameless star Steve Howey. The series is based on Elle Kennedy's best-selling novel series of the same name, which has a total of 5 books.

The book series follows the lives of ice hockey players at Briar University, and similar to Bridgerton, each of the four novels is a dedicated love story of one of the four hockey players, with the last fifth novella featuring every couple from the universe.

Off Campus Season 1 will adapt Book 1, The Deal, which follows the love story between Garrett Graham (Belmont Cameli) and Hannah Wells (Ella Bright).

This Louisa Levy and Gina Fattore-created series has added Steve Howey in a major recurring role. Howey will play the role of Phil Graham, Garrett’s father and a veteran hockey legend who pushed his son to become the star hockey player he is today.

In addition to Book 1, Phil Graham also appears in Book 2, The Mistake.

Off Campus casts Shameless star Steve Howey as Garrett’s father

Off Campus Season 1 will feature the dedicated love story between Briar University's playboy and star hockey player, Garrett and hockey-hating, music major Hannah.

Book readers will likely remember that Phil Graham is a major character in Book 1 and has an overarching presence in his son's life. Steve Howey has finally been roped in to play Phil. Howey is most famously known for his character of Kevin Ball in Showtime's Shameless and Van Montgomery on The WB/The CW's sitcom Reba. He has also appeared in projects like CBS' True Lies, NBC's Happy's Place, Game Over, Man!, Something Borrowed, and Bride Wars. In addition to Off Campus, Howey was also cast in ABC's hit procedural High Potential Season 2 as police Captain Jesse Wagner.

The book series follows the complicated love and college lives of Briar University's ice hockey players as they grapple with their careers and self-discovery, while transitioning into adulthood.

Following the Bridgerton path, Amazon MGM Studios will adapt each of Elle Kennedy's books in one season.

Following Garrett's love story, Off Campus' future seasons will be based on one of the hockey players from each book, which includes Logan from The Mistake (Antonio Cipriano), Dean from The Score (Stephen Kalyn), and Tucker from The Goal (Jalen Thomas Brooks). Actress Mika Abdalla was also cast as Dean's future love interest, Allie, in Book 3. In addition, Josh Heuston will play the role of Justin, Garrett's love rival in Off Campus Season 1.

Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios, announced Elle Kennedy's adaptation as follows, as per Variety:

“Elle Kennedy’s beloved series has resonated with a massive audience by tackling relatable topics from self-discovery to the power of connection...our global Prime Video customers will fall in love with this story all over again.”
