Over the course of its three seasons, Fire Country has come to feature several deaths. From the death of Rebecca in the debut season to the demise of characters such as Birch and Cara, the preponderance of death onboard the CBS show has led many members of the audience to believe that death is, after all, just another character on the show.
Despite characters meeting their ultimate fate time and again on the show, there’s one particular character death that still haunts the narrative of Fire Country, notwithstanding the fact that it occurred several years before the events of the show kicked off.
Here’s everything that you need to know.
Fire Country still mourns the death of Riley Leone
Although the character of Riley Leone, played by Jade Pettyjohn, died long before the events of the pilot episode of Fire Country, her death still continues to influence the narrative and the characters of the show. The second and third episodes of the first season revealed Leone’s fate through flashbacks, and the audience came to know that Riley died on the day of her birthday. While celebrating the evening with Bode, Vince, Sharon, Eve, and Jake, Riley was initially in a happy state of mind until she was spotted crying while in a conversation with Jake. It was then revealed that Jake and Riley were in a secret relationship and the former had cheated on her.
Being too sad to see through the rest of her birthday party, Riley went back home after Bode offered her a lift. Inside the car, Riley kept texting Jake and wanted to return to Smokey’s. It was then that she tried to get out of the moving car, and another car almost drove into them. While Bode tried his best to swerve and hit a tree, Riley didn’t survive the unfortunate accident. Long after her death, the Leone family was still haunted by her absence. Eve lost her best friend in Riley and still feels unable to open up to others. There was also the time Vince blamed Bode for Riley’s death.
Stephanie Arcila opens up about Fire Country
Stephanie Arcila plays the character of EMT and firefighter Gabriela Perez on the CBS show and has been a staple of the show for a long time. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Deadline, Arcila was asked about the present status of the relationship between Gabriela and Bode, and what the future held for the two of them. Arcila explained:
"When they met, they were both going through their own self-discovery and so much change in their personal lives that I think this is part of that breather, continuing to grow individually and getting to know themselves individually, and seeing where they are in their lives right now in terms of their self worth, their boundaries, their dating life, their careers. As for the future, I’ve learned that these writers always surprise me, and I have no expectations, just excitement."
Fire Country is exclusively available on CBS.
