The firefighters and the Leone family are grieving the loss of Vince in Fire Country Season 4. Vince wasn't just a part of the team but a guide to the young members like Gabriela, Jake, Auderey, and others at Station 42.
As seen in the first episode, Vince threw himself into danger to save Bode and Walter from the Zebel Ridge fire, and while doing so, he lost his life. This tragedy left Sharon in guilt and pain as she had to mourn the death of her husband and maintain balance at work.
As for Bode, he gave an emotional farewell to his father during the funeral. The story then jumped ahead eight weeks, and we see Bode has drugs inside his locker. This means that though he looks fine and recovered from the pain, it's actually not happening.
This marks new challenges for him in Fire Country Season 4, and also a new beginning for other firefighters. The hit CBS drama returned for episode 2 this week, and the episode synopsis reads:
"Station 42 faces a high-stakes wildfire situation that tests their unity, leadership and personal resilience. The new battalion chief is on site, but he has a polarizing leadership style that gets under everyone’s skin."
The synopsis is enough to reveal that the new chief has something that the Station 42 firefighters can't digest. Let's find out in the detailed recap below.
Fire Country Season 4 episode 2 recap: A new chief and tension at Firestation 42

Episode 2 of Fire Country Season 4 starts with the arrival of the new Battalion Chief, Brett Richards. He's replacing the late Vince, and it's a bit of a surprise that no one from the insider team was given the charge, like Jake, who has been seeking growth in his career and even has leadership qualities.
Even fans might take time to accept Richards, just like the team at Firestatio 42. The main reason why everyone is finding it hard to work with the new chief is that he's using a new approach that no one has previously followed.
His ways of leading the team clearly clash with the tradition and legacy of Vince Leone. And the one who brought Brett Richards is none other than Luke, as he believed it would be better to have him as the leader while Sharon and others are mourning Vince's death.
The episode also reveals that Vince and Brett were trained at the same academy, and the two clashed. His arrival felt personal to Sharon as she had to listen to Brett criticizing Vince's methods of leading the firefighters.
Since Brett stepped into this new position, he has been doubting almost everything. He decides to check how responsible the team is by faking a 911 call in episode 2 of Fire Country Season 4. The firefighters arrived in less than eight minutes, only to get accused of coming late.
Brett scolded everyone and even taunted Audrey, who was on vacation and couldn't arrive on time. While Brett thinks he's preparing the team, he's actually getting under everyone's skin, and the firefighters won't take long to speak up if the leadership feels wrong.
A dangerous fire in the woods forces the firefighters to rush in Fire Country, Season 4, episode 2

Episode 2 of Fire Country Season 4 continues as Bode, Audrey, and Jake decide to prove that they're skilled firefighters and Brett's methods are wrong. They want the new chief to make a big mistake so that he's reassigned and the team can feel a little better after his departure.
But it's not as easy as it looks. Soon, a deadly fire breaks out in the woods, and the firefighters rush to control the situation. Jake takes that lead in this mission with Audrey and Bode following him.
As they reached the place, it looked like the area was uninhabited. However, a dog led them to a group of people who were seeking shelter in the woods, with many living inside their cars to avoid handouts from the government.
Jake asked everyone to leave, but the people refused and needed help. As the fire was approaching, Audrey and Bode convinced Jake to help these people. Little did anyone know that their compassion would backfire.
The delay allows the fire to move quickly throughout the forest, and eventually, during all of this, one man named Joss is electrocuted as he was illegally stealing power from the city grid. The fire crew manages to get to Joss just in time to save him. Joss refused medical treatment at the hospital due to the heavy costs and ended up signing a waiver.
The Three Rock Program is canceled in Fire Country Season 4 episode 2

After the situation stabilizes in episode 2 of Fire Country Season 4, the firefighters start to think that Brett's strict ways aren't completely wrong. However, Sharon isn't fully convinced, but she does think that Vince's using gut feelings might have caused problems in the past.
Then Brett made a big announcement: the Three Rock program was being shut down because the council had sold the land. This meant the inmate firefighters who were part of that program would be moved to other stations.
It felt like the end of something special in Edgewater, especially since that program had helped so many people turn their lives around. Brett didn’t stop there. He gave the team a tough talk, saying that their carelessness and lack of discipline could get them killed, just like Vince. This way, episode 2 of Fire Country Season 4 ends.
