Harry Potter, the HBO series, set to release in 2027, has begun production and has released the first look of the lovable giant Hagrid. To anyone who has watched the original films or read the novels, Hagrid is a comfort character.
He is the kind, warm-hearted giant who rescued Harry from his uncle and aunt, helped him buy everything necessary for Hogwarts, and made sure Harry joined Hogwarts.
HBO has just released the first look at Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter series, as filming began on 14th July 2025.

According to the original novels, Rubeus Hagrid is a half-giant, born to a Mr. Hagrid and a giantess, Fridwulfa. We first see him in the Harry Potter films or read about him in the books when he comes to check on Harry after he doesn't respond to his Hogwarts letter. We learn that he is the gamekeeper at Hogwarts and lives in a small cottage in the grounds. But he has his own story.
Robbie Coltrane played Hagrid in all eight Harry Potter films. It's safe to say that fans have associated Coltrane with Hagrid for over two decades since Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) was released. Coltrane embodied Hagrid in every way, and the actor's demise in 2022 was a disheartening incident for fans worldwide.
While Coltrane will continue to be the first Hagrid fans fell in love with, it's time to let someone else embody the character to the newer generations. Thus, the baton has now been passed on to Nick Frost, and we hope he will entertain fans the same way Coltrane did.
After filming for the Harry Potter series began on July 14, 2025, HBO released the first look at Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. The post also said:

Nick Frost has had quite a successful career before he was cast as Hagrid in the HBO series. Frost is an English actor, screenwriter, and comedian. He is known for playing Nion in Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) and The Huntsman: Winter's War (2016), Bertram in Why Women Kill (2019-2021), and for voicing SM-33 in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Frost has also recently appeared as Gobber the Belch in How to Train Your Dragon (2025).
Other than Hagrid, many other staff members of Hogwarts have been cast. The announced cast includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell.
The Harry Potter series will be released in 2027, but a specific date has not yet been released by HBO.
