Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin are hoping to surprise their viewers with the brand-new comedy series on HBO titled The Chair Company. From plot details to the aesthetic and format of the comedy, a lot is being kept in the dark from viewers. The only concrete information we have about the premise of the show is a short logline that doesn't give away much:

"After an embarrassing incident at work, a man (Robinson) finds himself investigating a far-reaching conspiracy."

The logline sets the premise of William Ronald Trosper, played by Tim Robinson himself, at the center of intense humiliation, who then finds himself investigating a conspiracy. How the embarrassing incident at work is connected to the conspiracy investigation remains unclear.

Despite the mystery surrounding the upcoming project, we do have some first-look pictures of the eight-episode series, so keep reading to find out everything we know about The Chair Company.

The Chair Company, originally presented as a half-hour comedy pilot starring Robinson and written by Robinson and Zach Kanin, was picked up to series by HBO back in September 2024. At the time, the only information available was the logline and the writing duo involved. A year later, and even with an official premiere date, this is still the only information we have about the show's plot.

Kanin explains this as a deliberate decision, aimed at keeping key elements under wraps and preserving the element of surprise:

"When I watch a show or a movie, I don’t want to know anything about it. I would want to just be surprised by everything"

So, our leading man, Ron, suffers intense humiliation at work, and being a prideful man, he doesn't take the embarrassment well. In retaliation, he discovers that there is something he can actually do about it and sets out on a journey to do so.

Robinson's William Ronald Trosper will be joined on The Chair Company by Lake Bell as Barb Trosper, Will Price as Seth Trosper, Sophia Lillis as Natalie Trosper, Lou Diamond Phillips as Jeff Levjman, Joseph Tudisco as Mike Santini, and "a bunch of other actors we haven't seen before," Kanin adds.

Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin, apart from being the brains behind The Chair Company, are also involved as executive producers along with Todd Schulman and Adam McKay for HyperObject Industries, and Igor Srubshchik. Andrew DeYoung also serves as the director.

The Chair Company is an eight-episode series set to debut October 12 at 10 PM ET/PT on HBO. The premiere will be followed by weekly episode releases, setting the finale for November 30.
