CBS' Sheriff Country star Morena Baccarin shared her feelings about leading the new Fire Country spin-off, recalling how fun the training was for the show.

The show portrays Baccarin's character back in the small hometown she once left behind, leading a police force. As mentioned, the show portrays Mickey, Baccarin's character, as the police force's leader while balancing her professional life with her personal struggles. She said she had always enjoyed learning about law enforcement and how they were trained for the Sheriff's Office.

“We always have somebody on set helping with things like, if I’m walking out of my car and suspect someone might be armed, how do I do it? Do I pull my gun out?” She added further.

This suggests that Sheriff Country was mindful of even small details while shooting. The makers ensure their actors exhibit the correct reactions and body language to make the action look more authentic and organic. Morena Baccarin also talked about learning to handle guns for the role. She and co-star Matt Lauria practised drawing and holstering their guns until it felt natural on camera.

“Matt Lauria and I joke around a lot because half of our time on set is spent practising pulling the gun out, putting it back in, pulling it out and putting it back in,” says Baccarin. “You want it to be second nature because when you put that gun back in, you don’t want to look down to see where it is.”

However, she also mentioned that she has always been afraid of using guns.

“I’ve always been very scared of guns. I don’t own a gun. I believe if we didn’t have guns at all, then a lot of the stuff that we deal with would not be happening.”

She mentioned that the crew and the people teaching them to handle weapons were very respectful towards it, and she learnt that from them.

"Everybody who has been teaching us has been incredibly respectful about the weapon and when you use it, when you touch it, what you do with it and how to handle it.”

She also recalled trying to negotiate a clause in the contract to shift the filming of Sheriff Country from the West Coast to the East Coast so that it would be near her husband. She thought she wouldn't get the job after this, but the producers agreed, which made him feel respected and valued.

“I think that was a big moment for me to realize that I am valuable enough for them to make that concession. It also sets up a really nice work relationship, not just that they want me, but that we are partners in this.”

Baccarin then got all nostalgic, thinking about how, for Sheriff Country's shoot, she missed a birthday, and then she tried to make up for it by taking off on another day. She mentioned that she always tries to remind her kids and family that she is thinking of them, even when they are not together all the time.

Sheriff Country season 1 episode 3 is dropping on 31st October, 2025.
