Fans had a lot of different opinions about how Game of Thrones would end even before the final season premiered. These theories, which developed based on hints in the books and the show, were more plausible to me than the results we obtained.

Readers came up with amazing ideas for shocking surprises, magical happenings, and unexpected political events. Bran, Jon Snow, Daenerys, and the Night King are the focus of some of these hypotheses. It demonstrated the deep bond that fans had with the narrative of Game of Thrones and all of its characters, with many of these predictions even coming true.

Here is the list of the 10 brilliant theories that beat the actual plot of Game of Thrones:

10. Daenerys and Jon Snow die, and their children inherit the throne

The Game of Thrones fans anticipated that Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow would become parents. According to the GOT fan's theory, this child would unite the North and South into a single family like the Targaryens and Starks. A few believed that this child might meet the requirements for the "Prince that was promised."

Fans speculated a theory that Daenerys was cursed and therefore she was unable to bear children, which might be incorrect. If they had a child and they had died, that child might rule with a regent such as Tyrion until they come of age. This theory showed what a safe future in Westeros could look like.

9. Jon Snow becomes King

According to the prophecy, Jon Snow is the legitimate heir to the Iron Throne since he is Aegon Targaryen. The GOT audience loved him for just being a strong leader. Some thought that he would either kill Daenerys or become king with her. Since he was the son of Rhaegar Targaryen, Rhaegar's claim was stronger than Daenerys's.

Those who watched Game of Thrones witnessed that Jon valued peace over power. Despite this, people hoped that he would take the crown for the betterment of the nation.

8. Gendry becomes King

Daenerys legitimized Gendry, King Robert Baratheon's illegitimate son, and made him Lord of Storm's End. Some Game of Thrones followers believed that the circumstances would prepare him for kingship and restore House Baratheon to power.

Gendry became a likable character since he was raised by common people. George R.R. Martin also brought up the Targaryen bloodline in the book "Fire & Blood," backing up Gendry's title bid. Many were sad that they couldn't become king on the show, but they had faith that Brandon would reign fairly and reasonably.

7. Cersei destroys King's Landing with Wildfire

Another Game of Thrones hypothesis suggested that Westeros would disintegrate into its seven original kingdoms following the battles. Stannis discovered that while Aerys was king, he planted wildfire stores beneath the city to cause devastation. In Season 8, Cersei unleashed wildfire on the Sept of Baelor to eliminate numerous external threats. Audiences believed that as long as the fire burned, Cersei could defeat her opponents and demonstrate her strength.

Bran saw wildfire, and Daenerys saw her throne destroyed, both of which corroborated this view. Daenerys was the one in the story who unleashed dragonfire on King’s Landing, whereas before it was Cersei who did so. Many people thought it would fit better for Cersei to lead the destruction, as her character’s behavior led up to it.

6. Westeros is divided into 7 Kingdoms again

Another theory was that the seven original kingdoms would reorganize themselves following the battles. The lands now united by Aegon the Conqueror, were all independent kingdoms. Many believed that if this system returned, each part would rule itself and never fight for the Iron Throne again.

People believed this idea helped to achieve peace and personal self-government in Game of Thrones. At its conclusion, Sansa Stark ruled as queen, and only the North regained its independence. Bran Stark kept the rest of Westeros together after being chosen King. A few viewers thought it would have been more believable if the kingdom had been completely split, so all regions could enjoy their own culture and freedom.

5. Bran 'Wargs' into a Dragon

Some fans theorized that Bran could steer a dragon against the Night King in battle because he can warg. The idea comes from the words given by the Three-Eyed Raven to Bran. The Three-Eyed Raven said,

"You’ll never walk again, but you will fly."

Fans of Game of Thrones speculated that Bran's burgeoning talents as a warg and greenseer would transform him into a dragon. Some even conjectured that Bran might have influenced Daenerys's conduct by warning with Drogon during the fall of King's Landing.

However, this theory hasn't been confirmed because the show didn't feature Bran rushing into any dragon. Thus, many GOT fans believed that presenting Bran's skills in this manner would have given his character greater depth and given his storyline a more satisfying ending.

4. The Night King is a Targaryen

Another interesting Game of Thrones theory states that the Night King was a Targaryen. Those who believed in this idea noted that the Night King could ride Viserion and was immune to dragon fire, just like Targaryens often are. A few fans pointed out that the Night King’s symbol is similar to the Targaryen sigil. Even so, this theory comes up against major challenges.

At a time before Targaryen rule, the First Men faced the Children of the Forest, who then created the Night King. As a result, he probably is not a Targaryen. It is more reasonable to credit his fire resilience to his magical White Walker nature rather than his Targaryen ancestry. The addition of the theory changes the character somewhat, though it doesn’t match up with the series’ history and mythology.

3. Tyrion is a secret Targaryen

Some people think Tyrion is not the son of Tywin Lannister, but instead had as his biological father, the Mad King Aerys II, and mother, Joanna Lannister. It is Tywin Lannister's behavior towards him as well as him having verbally rejected his son that led to this theory. They claim that Tyrion encountered the dragons without any consequences, which shows he is truly a Targaryen.

Tyrion’s uncommon appearance and his interest in dragons give him away in a certain way. At the same time, this approach isn’t supported by substantive proof from either the Game of Thrones books or the show. Tyrion is shown to be a real Lannister in the show, and no real proof backs up his claim of Targaryen ancestry. Despite being intriguing, the theory is yet to be proven, even experimentally.

2. Bran is the Night King

A theory states that Bran Stark might have become the Night King due to his ability to travel through time. Bran attacks the man, changing into the Night King in an attempt to stop the creation of the Night King, but he is immediately imprisoned inside him. Followers of both believe their outward appearances and abilities, such as greensight and warging, are alike.

A relationship is also hinted at by the Night King's awareness of Bran during visions. This theory is implausible, though, as Game of Thrones reveals the Night King's creation long before Bran was born. Despite the strong similarities, the series does not support this link, hence, the theory remains an intriguing but unproven hypothesis.

1. Meera Reed & Jon Snow are twins

According to some Game of Thrones fans, Meera Reed is Jon Snow’s twin sister. It's based on the fact that they were both born around the same time and that Howland Reed, who is Meera's dad, took Lyanna Stark to a place called the Tower of Joy when she gave birth to Jon.

Some people believe that Lyanna had twins named Jon and Meera. According to this idea, Ned Stark took Jon away, while his friend Howland took Meera with him. Supporters of the theory point out that Meera resembles the Stark family and remains loyal to them. However, it’s important to note that the show and the books don't provide any solid evidence.

Game of Thrones only depicts one baby, Jon, being taken from the Tower of Joy. Ellie Kendrick, who plays Meera, also admits that she's not sure about this hypothesis, speculating that it might not have been the writers' original intention but rather the conjecture of a fan.

We can conclude that the Game of Thrones did not play out as most fans predicted. Fans were disappointed with the series finale, which didn’t live up to the theories and predictions-filled stories they imagined the show would tell.

Unexpected outcomes, such as Jon and Meera discovering they are twins or Bran using a dragon, may have completed the story. These theories maintained community interest and served as the basis for numerous conversations after the show concluded, although they were never validated.
