People still talk about Game of Thrones years after that big finale wrapped up. The show keeps fans hooked with those massive battles and all the twisted politics. Plus, there are the character stories that stick in your mind for good.

One thing that comes up a lot, though, is how many actors showed up in both Game of Thrones and the Harry Potter movies. That is pretty surprising. To get straight to it, yes, some Game of Thrones performers did pop into Harry Potter films too. They played everything from big leads to quick cameos or even helped out behind the camera.

This mix of two huge fantasy stories feels pretty wild in a way. You would not expect the folks who dealt with the Long Night or plotted inside the cold halls of King's Landing to end up walking around Hogwarts. Some served Voldemort or joined the fight in the Battle of Hogwarts.

The reason for all this overlap makes sense when you think about it. Both projects were filmed mostly in the UK. They drew from the same group of British and Irish actors.

Game of Thrones stars who also did Harry Potter

1. Natalia Tena played Osha in Game of Thrones and Nymphadora Tonks in Harry Potter

Natalia Tena stands out as the top name in this crossover group. She brought Osha to life in Game of Thrones as that no-nonsense wildling woman. Osha got caught near Winterfell at first. Over time, she turned into a real guardian for Rickon and Bran Stark.

You see her in those key early parts of the show that focus on staying alive. She leads the Stark kids up north. Later on, she does her best to keep Rickon safe from Ramsay Bolton.

In Harry Potter, she became Nymphadora Tonks, the shape-shifting witch. Tonks was part of the Order of the Phoenix and someone everyone liked. Her parts show up in the Order of the Phoenix movie, along with Half Blood Prince. She is in Deathly Hallows, too. Fans remember her for that wild purple hair and how clumsy she could get.

Her story ends up sad with Remus Lupin by her side. The way her characters differ really shows off her range. Osha stays tough as a wildling fighter. Tonks brings this fun, quirky side as a young witch.

Game of Thrones actors like her prove they can handle all kinds of roles.

2. David Bradley was Walder Frey in Game of Thrones and Argus Filch in Harry Potter

David Bradley ended up with some really memorable parts in both of those big series. He took on Walder Frey in Game of Thrones. That was the guy running House Frey. He planned out the whole Red Wedding. People still call it the biggest shock in the show. Bradley played him as this cold and scheming type. It turned him into one of the most hated bad guys around.

Over in Harry Potter, Bradley was Argus Filch. He kept things in order as the caretaker at Hogwarts. Being a squib made him bitter. He stuck close to his cat, Mrs. Norris. His grumpy side and watchful eye added that funny kind of tension to the movies. Everyone remembers it well.

Those characters both needed someone who could show irritation and a bit of power. They had this unpredictable edge, too. Bradley nailed that part pretty much every time.

3. Ciarán Hinds played Mance Rayder in Game of Thrones and Aberforth Dumbledore in Harry Potter

Remarkably, the role played by the actor in both series was essential to every respective viewer. Game of Thrones' Mance Rayder was one of his characters. By so doing, he was the King-Beyond-the-Wall and the King of the Free Folk simultaneously.

Mance was a highly appealing and luminous personality who attracted people towards himself. Peace, but his manner; he was even too rude to attack Stannis Baratheon. These characteristics made him one of the most difficult and the least evident characters of the plot. Further on, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, he appeared as Aberforth Dumbledore. This was the brother of Albus Dumbledore. His scenes did not last long.

Nevertheless, he described important details of the Dumbledore family. He also assisted Harry in being admitted into Hogwarts, as Voldemort was in charge of everything. This commanding feel, which was constant in the two jobs, came with Hinds. It solidly linked them.

4. Michelle Fairley was Catelyn Stark in Game of Thrones and Mrs. Granger in Harry Potter

The fact that she crossed the series was certainly an eye-opener to many. Fairley starred as Catelyn Stark right in the centre stage of Game of Thrones. She stood by her despite anything that happened to her family. The sorrow that fell upon her when Ned Stark died was great. It was a tragic end to the Red Wedding for everyone.

Her appearance in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 as the mother of Hermione Granger was a minor part. You remember that difficult one, when Hermione wiped the record of herself out of the memory of her parents? She did that for protection. The scene was done in no time. Nevertheless, it is an official location of the Harry Potter world.

5. Julian Glover played Grand Maester Pycelle in Game of Thrones and voiced Aragog in Harry Potter

To a certain extent, Julian Glover connects two giant franchises. He performs a fairly good combination of voice roles and regular acting. He had the role of Grand Maester Pycelle in Game of Thrones. That personality appeared to be a feeble elderly tutor who had served at the court of multiple monarchs.

Pycelle, however, under that act became very sharp at politics; he was capable of far more than was supposed. In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Glover has recorded the voice of Aragog. It was the giant Acromantula that Hagrid had. His voice was deep and harsh. It made that scary thing really come to life onscreen.

6. Jim Broadbent appeared as Archmaester Ebrose in Game of Thrones and Professor Slughorn in Harry Potter

One of the larger names that appeared in both those worlds is Jim Broadbent. He became the Archmaester Ebrose in the seventh season of Game of Thrones. Those were the characters that served Sam Tarly as the best scholar at the Citadel. The entire bureaucratic aspect of the Maesters was drawn out by Ebrose.

They were slow when it came to handling large threats. Broadbent worked with Professor Horace Slughorn in the Harry Potter movies. This role began in Half-Blood Prince and continued. The memories of Slughorn became very important in the explanation of the Horcruxes of Voldemort. His role was connected to the main plot.

In both roles, Broadbent is subtle and clever in his acting. He dwells extensively on the characters themselves.

7. Freddie Stroma took the part of Dickon Tarly in Game of Thrones and Cormac McLaggen in Harry Potter.

A relationship between the two performances comes out more to the audience who watch it as children, thanks to Freddie Stroma. He also featured in Game of Thrones Season six as Dickon Tarly, the younger brother of Samwell Tarly. They replay the role following his tenure; nevertheless, his brief appearance binds him to the series permanently.

In Harry Potter, Cormac McLaggen went out with Stroma. That boy was that pompous Gryffindor in the Quidditch team-he was weirdly following Hermione. In both of them, Stroma uses the characters in order to lean upon that young and brash approach.

8. Ralph Ineson portrayed Dagmer Cleftjaw in Game of Thrones and appeared as Amycus Carrow in Harry Potter

Ralph Ineson's voice is deep and can be recognized without a problem right away. In Game of Thrones, he was Dagmer Cleftjaw. That figure served as an Ironborn fighter pushing Theon Greyjoy to take Winterfell.

In Harry Potter, Ineson took on Amycus Carrow. He worked as a Death Eater deep in the takeover at Hogwarts. Ineson often ends up in roles like tough guys with murky morals.

9. Ian Whyte (Multiple Creatures in Game of Thrones / Madame Maxime Body Double in Harry Potter)

Ian Whyte takes the lead when it comes to crossover performers behind the scenes; he is the most prolific one. In Game of Thrones, he plays a list of roles, all of them quite tall or those of a creature: The White Walkers in the first couple of seasons, Wun Wun, the giant, Unnamed giants, and different beings, all of which were either animal-like or supernatural.

He was a body double in the film version of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for the character Madame Maxime when long shots were required in which the character had to appear very tall. His work is often not noticed, but very important.

10. Bronson Webb (Will in Game of Thrones / Slytherin Student in Harry Potter)

In the pilot of the series Night, a brief but official crossover has Bronson Webb as Will, a Night Watch member who was accused of desertion and executed by Ned Stark due to his encounter with White Walkers too near. He is a Slytherin student who was briefly featured in the Quidditch match scenes in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

His functions were minor, yet they linked the two giant franchises. The crossover of the worlds and the British acting scene was great, as we see with the number of actors employed in both productions.

The actors who acted as characters in the movies, like Jim Broadbent and Natalia Tena, or even the unknown technical crew, like Ian Whyte, had the opportunity to push the modern fantasy genres embodied by these two giant franchises.

There is not merely the emphasis made by their common participation, but also the excellence, versatility, and creativity that deposited the character of the land of magic and the sea of ice and fire.
