Kit Harrington has opened up about his aspirations for the upcoming Harry Potter television series. The Game of Thrones star just made his entrance into the wizarding world. He lent his voice to Gilderoy Lockhart in Audible's Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets audiobook. This week saw the launch of the second installment in the celebrity-packed audio series.

Fans got to hear Harington portray the pompous Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. This role is quite different from Jon Snow, the character that made him famous. The actor now has bigger plans for his involvement with the franchise. During an interview with Variety, he discussed his lifelong connection to the books. He also revealed what role he would love to play in the live-action series.

Kit Harrington called himself "a big book nerd" when talking to Variety. He mentioned that the films never captured his attention the way the novels did. He explained:

"I never really got into the movies so much. I did watch them, but I didn't come to it through them,"

The timing of his introduction to the series was perfect. He was eleven when someone gave him the first book. Harry was also eleven at the start. Harrington shared:

"I loved the books when I was growing up. I was one of those people who received the book - I was 11, and Harry was 11. I grew up with them,"

Each new release became an event in his childhood. By the time the films arrived, he felt too old for casting.

The HBO Harry Potter series gives the actor another chance to join the franchise. Variety asked whether he would be interested in appearing in the television adaptation. His answer left no room for doubt.

"I'd take on any of them," Harrington said.

He went further than most actors would dare.

"I'll be a background extra, I don't care. I would love to be in that," he added.

His childhood fandom clearly runs deep. HBO plans to release the series in 2027. The network promises a faithful recreation of the source material.

Kit Harrington on joining the audiobook cast

Audible's new series has assembled an impressive lineup of remarkable talent. Kit Harrington works alongside several of his Game of Thrones colleagues. Mark Addy took on Hagrid, while Iwan Rheon voices Professor Lupin. Gemma Whelan recorded lines for Professor Sprout.

The cast extends beyond the Game of Thrones reunion. Hugh Laurie plays Dumbledore. Matthew Macfadyen brings Voldemort to life. Keira Knightley will appear as Professor Umbridge later.

The production spans more than 2,000 hours across all seven books. Audible will release one book monthly through May 2026. Pottermore Publishing partnered with Audible for this full-cast experience.

Different feelings about Game of Thrones for Kit Harrington

Harrington feels very differently about his most famous character. Variety brought up the possibility of a Game of Thrones audiobook. When asked whether he would return to voice Jon Snow?

"No, god no," he said immediately.

. The response was direct and final.

"I don't wanna go anywhere near it. I spent 10 years doing that. Thanks, I'm alright," he explained.

Ten years of portraying Jon Snow seems to have been enough. Westeros holds no more appeal for him at this stage of his career. His eagerness for Harry Potter stands in stark contrast. One franchise exhausted him. The other still excites him like a child.

What fans can expect from Kit Harrington

Kit Harrington voices Gilderoy Lockhart in the audiobook now available on Audible. The release date was December 16, 2025. Fans have started sharing their reactions online.

Lockhart only features in the second book. This means listeners won't hear Harrington in future installments. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban will arrive on January 13, 2026. Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù joins that production as Sirius Black. Saoirse-Monica Jackson will voice Professor Trelawney.

Harrington hopes the casting team will remember his enthusiasm when they finalize the HBO Harry Potter series roster.
