I have a fascinating opinion about the popular series Game of Thrones—Arya Stark is Westeros' Batman. Yes, I feel like I can draw several comparisons between GOT's Arya Stark character and Batman, aka Bruce Wayne. Like, how both the characters' journeys began with witnessing the brutal murder of their family. Or how these characters are trained secretly for redemption under some shadowy organisation.

Let's revisit Nolan's epic along with the legendary show Game of Thrones. Read on for more such comparisons of Arya Stark and Batman.

Having been a Batman fan when I analysed Arya Stark's character from Game of Thrones, I can't help myself draw out some fascinating comparisons between the two.

Connection to personal tragedy

As mentioned earlier, both characters' journey is deeply influenced by their personal tragedies—the brutal killing of their family members. Arya witnesses her father getting beheaded in front of the crowd, like how Bruce Wayne witnessed the murder of both his parents. They fight for injustice fueled by grief and vengeance.

Secret Training to avenge their parents' deaths

They are both determined to avenge the deaths of their parents and find a reason to live in this very act. Arya trains with the Faceless Men in Braavos. These are the assassins who master disguise, stealth, and death. Similar to Bruce’s training with the League of Shadows in Batman Begins. Both learn to fight, use deception, and manipulate fear, transforming their character and turning the spark into fire against injustice.

Vigilantism

Arya clearly becomes a vigilante of Westeros after her training, just like Batman. Both the characters are highly skilled but morally grey characters. Arya is ready to kill without hesitation if she thinks it serves justice. While Batman avoided killing also operated in highly grey areas, especially when the law is unable to ensure justice.

Operates alone and travels the world

Arya Stark and Bruce Wayne both are shown to travel the world to hone themselves physically and mentally. While Arya reconnects with her family, her path is solitary. She wears different faces, travels alone, and chooses to sail west, apart from others. Like Batman brooding on a Gotham rooftop, Arya’s power is in her solitude and mystery. She’s not seeking glory or leadership — just justice on her own terms.

Experience Imprisonment

In Game of Thrones Season 2, Arya is taken prisoner and ends up at Harrenhal, a ruined and cursed castle in the Riverlands. While there, she serves as a cupbearer for Tywin Lannister, hiding her identity and observing her enemies in silence, much like Bruce Wayne gathering intel while undercover. Batman transforms from a griever to a powerful vigilante during his prison years.

Moreover, both the characters are shown to have popular parents, and learns to play several roles within one life, in order to disappear and be hidden and keep working towards their ultimate goal. They also trade their family name in order to distance themselves from their identities, like how Arya becomes a peasant boy regardless of her past and ancestry.

All these factors make Arya Stark from GOT and Batman similar, which I believe is interesting to decode. For more such curated pieces, stay tuned to SoapCentral.
