Garrett Wareing, who plays Lucas Russell, told reporters while talking about Ransom Canyon Season 2, he’s seen material for the next run and that the writers are shaping scenes that change how his character appears on screen.

As per Deadline report:

“I got some scripts, so I’m very excited to bring these characters, to screen again, and develop them even further,” Wareing said.

He added that Lucas will keep his “golden retriever energy” while showing a “nice contrast” in new moments. Those lines suggest the writers will balance Lucas’s warm side with scenes that test him. The scripts Wareing mentioned point to Ransom Canyon Season 2, giving more time to small, everyday moments and to turning points that force choices for several characters.

Season 1 closed with several plot threads that need attention. In Episode 1, Staten finds evidence tied to his son’s crash and spends the season chasing answers; by the finale, the truth comes out, and arrests follow.

Meanwhile, Quinn accepts a six-month piano spot in New York, leaving her relationship with Staten unresolved. Those beats set the stage for Ransom Canyon Season 2 to reopen questions about land, loyalties, and who will run which ranch.

Lucas will be shown in different situations

Wareing has hinted that Lucas will be put in scenes that reveal more about his decisions. He said the new scripts create “a nice contrast” to the friendly side viewers saw before, and those contrasts often mean specific challenges on screen.

For example, Lucas choosing between staying for love or leaving for school, and facing pressure from family when money or loyalty are at stake. The show’s teen romance arc ended in season 1 with Lucas making a public declaration of love for Lauren while also reading college letters, a concrete starting point for his arc in Ransom Canyon Season 2.

Netflix renewed for Ransom Canyon Season 2 in June 2025, and writers moved into the room quickly. Showrunner April Blair has said the writers are keeping Quinn and Staten at the center, and she has discussed a time jump after Quinn’s New York stay so the season can open on her return.

According to Deadline, production on Season 2 has already begun with an expected post-production window that points toward late 2026 release timing. Casey W. Johnson was promoted to series regular, while other main cast members remain the same.
