Dean Cipher is the latest antagonist in Gen V Season 2 in The Boys universe. His interactions with the students at Godolkin University make it clear that the mystery surrounding him should be feared.

Hamish Linklater continues to deliver one of the more compelling performances as the new Dean, but this is not the first time the actor has played unsettling characters. Previous characters that Linklater has portrayed, including Father Paul Hill in Midnight Mass, are more than proof of his talent.

Gen V star Hamish Linklater recently revealed in a conversation with ScreenRant another project that he wished to be a part of, and it called back to his days on Midnight Mass.

Hamish Linklater as Dean Cipher is the latest obsession in The Boys universe with the premiere of Gen V Season 2. He plays Indira Shetty's replacement, and while Indira was on a quest to eradicate Supes, Cipher is not an anti-hero. He is an antagonist, and his actions and words leave behind an unsettling feeling, putting all doubts to rest.

While Dean Cipher is the first of his kind for Gen V, this is not the first time that Hamish Linklater has taken up a vaguely unsettling character whose motives, even though unknown, could be no good. Before The Boys spin-off, Linklater appeared in the Netflix blockbuster Midnight Mass, directed by Mike Flanagan.

Hamish Linklater led Midnight Mass as Father Paul Hill. The series, a horrific slow burn that offers a soul-shattering reflection on faith, death, guilt, addiction, and free will, turned out to be one of the greatest performances of his career from Linklater. It appears he agrees, as he recently revealed in a conversation with ScreenRant that he would love to return to work with Mike Flanagan.

He even went on to add that he had reached out to Mike and expressed his desire. So it would happen when it would happen:

"I’ve discussed it, but has he discussed it back to me? No, because look, he’s made a bunch of projects, making projects all the time, not casting old Father Paul much. That’d be nice. He’s the best, he’s absolutely the best. I’d love to work with him again."

Mike Flanagan is known for forming a long connection with many of his actors and casting them in his latest projects, as was apparent in Midnight Mass, where several actors who've previously worked with Flanagan were cast alongside Linklater, such as Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, and Henry Thomas. If such is the case, the possibility of Linklater returning to work with Flanagan is higher than ever.

For now, though, we can look forward to Linklater as the mysterious Dean Cipher, about whom we know next to nothing, including what his powers are, where he comes from, what his involvement is in terms of Vought or Elmira, or if he has anything to do with "Project Odyssey."

As the episodes continue to premiere for Gen V Season 2, we'll get to see more of the smart, smug, and mysterious new Dean.
