Ghosts Season 5 to reportedly answer a major series question 

Ghosts, the CBS sitcom, has grown to become one of the network’s most successful comedies. Premiering on 7th October 2021, the series has four seasons so far and has been renewed for a fifth and sixth season.

The show follows Samantha and Jay, a married couple who inherit a crumbling country estate, only to discover that it's haunted by a group of interesting spirits from different periods. After a near-death experience, Sam gains the ability to see and communicate with the ghosts, while Jay has no idea what is going on.

Over time, the series has explored the powers and pasts of nearly all the ghosts, except one. We know about Sasappis, aka Sass’ powers, but how did he die? We still don’t know. But according to the show’s co-showrunner, that question might finally be answered in season five.

Ghosts season 5 could reveal how Sass died

Sass (played by Román Zaragoza) is one of the original ghost characters we meet early in the series. A Native American from the Lenape tribe, Sass often plays the role of the sarcastic yet logical one among the other ghosts. Although we’ve seen glimpses of his personality and history, the show has never revealed exactly how he died.

That could change in season five. In a recent TVLine column, co-showrunner Joe Wiseman hinted at the reason behind Sass’ death being revealed,

“We’re not promising, but it is something we’ve talked about a lot… It does seem like every season, we reveal some of the big mysteries — what their powers are, and how they died — and as you mentioned, I think the last one is Sas’ death, so… Probably.”

Wiseman’s comment increases hope regarding the revelation of Sass’s death. Since most of the other ghosts’ stories have already been told, the reveal of Sass’ death would be the last missing piece in the show's bigger story.

In season four, Sass received more screen time than in previous seasons. His romantic arc with Joan, the ghost of a Hollywood screenwriter, showed him in a new light. At the same time, he faced personal challenges, like navigating his centuries-old virginity and choosing between Joan and his long-standing crush, Shiki. These storylines helped viewers understand Sass better, and the story of his death, if and when revealed, will help viewers understand him better.

With season five on the way, the writers have an opportunity to take Sass’ story further, and revealing the reason for his death can be an essential step in that direction. Although the season has several ongoing plotlines, such as Jay’s trying to reclaim his soul from Elias, Sass’ backstory deserves equal attention.

The show has always made a point of revealing each ghost’s powers and deaths over time. Now, with most of those mysteries solved, Sass’ death remains the last unanswered question. Giving that story space to unfold would not only satisfy longtime fans but also add more layers to the character.

While there are general speculations about Sass’ fate, nothing has been confirmed. A clear explanation in season five would bring closure and enhance the overall story of the show.

Ghosts has consistently balanced comedy with good storytelling and mystery. Exploring how Sass died could become one of the season’s most touching and memorable plotlines. As the series heads into its fifth chapter, it seems likely that viewers will finally get the answers they’ve been waiting for.
