Squid Game Season 3 has its work cut out for it. The Squid Game Season 2 ending has to be one of the most traumatic cliffhangers to ever exist. One would think things couldn't get any worse for Gi-hun - his rebellion was falling apart, and he was unaware that the man he was trusting was actually the Front Man - but the Season 2 ending, where his childhood friend is killed right before his eyes, made everything so much worse.
Squid Game Season 3 is almost upon us, with the June 27 release, and fans couldn't be any more excited for the new season. Especially because of the exclusive clip that has been shared from Season 3 via IGN. The clip features Gi-hun begging to be killed after he is captured by the guards and put right back into the game after his friend's death.
Squid Game Season 3 clip reveals Gi-hun's desperate need to die after the Season 2 ending
Squid Game Season 3 is the final installment of this wildly popular dystopian show, where financially desperate people are offered money in exchange for winning a series of deadly games where they have to fight for their survival, but only one of them will actually make it out of the game alive. Season 2 ended with Gi-hun failing in his rebellion and being forced to watch his friend die right in front of his eyes.
The exclusive clip released by IGN of Squid Game Season 3 features Gi-hun after this incident, and he's seen begging the guards to kill him. He's at the pinnacle of his desperation and doesn't want to be alive anymore, and just wants to die.
Gi-hun doesn't understand why they're letting him live after everything that has happened, and he's seen begging just to be able to die. The Squid Game Season 3 exclusive scene cuts to the Front Man, who is watching everything from the live feed, unfazed. This ties in with the Front Man's image, as a person who has no value for the lives of these people, and gets off on running the game like a puppet master at the top.
He's doing the same with Gi-hun in Squid Game Season 3 as he forces him to live through the worst of his days and does not even kill him in mercy. He puts Gi-hun right back into the game and forces him to witness just how little of a difference his actions made, and that he got his best friend killed without making any revolutionary change in the game's existence.
"Why did you let me live? What do you want from me? Why didn't you kill me? You won! So, go ahead and kill me!"
After everything that has happened with Gi-hun throughout the past two seasons, it is very unlikely that he will be successful in making any difference to the games in Squid Game Season 3, but this scene makes it so much more painful. Gi-hun is feeling survivor's guilt along with the guilt of getting all the other people killed in his crusade of rebellion.
Only time will tell if The Front Man's decision to leave Gi-hun alive in the final season of Squid Game will turn out to be a mistake, as a desperate man can be extremely unpredictable. We'll have to wait until June 27 to find out what happens in the Squid Game Season 3.
