Apart from all the songs that the show features, the series also has its own sound—something that Amy Sherman-Palladino specifically wanted. Therefore, Carole King re-recorded her 1971 track “Where You Lead” in a version with her daughter, Louise Goffin. The song remained the show’s theme song for all seven years and King also made a cameo appearance in the series. Singer-songwriter Sam Phillips was also a defining part of the soundtrack for the show and her “La Las” is a large part of the show’s sound.

According to Vice, Rory’s musical taste is more eclectic and modern as compared to her mother’s and she therefore listens to Sonic Youth, Franz Ferdinand, and more. On the other hand, Lorelai listens to The Bangles, Wilco, and more such songs from the 1980s, when she was a teenager.

The show is available on Netflix.
