What is Gimbap and Onigiri about?

The Japanese drama's storyline focuses on the famous Korean and Chinese dishes, gimbap and onigiri. The male lead, Akaso Eiji, is playing the role of Hase Taiga, a cook working in a small restaurant part-time. However, he used to be an athlete in the past. The female lead, Kang Hye Won, is playing the role of Park Rin, a South Korean presently living in Japan and working in the animation field.

Their story begins with Park Rin visiting the restaurant where Taiga works and eventually falling for the dishes he makes, which ultimately builds their connection. The story might also focus on their past and how they got into the role they are in in the present and the struggles they face in their current role.

Not to forget, Park Rin also faces challenges after being asked to leave her student dormitory. How she handles this, and whether Taiga will decide to help her in a new country, will be something that viewers will see once the drama starts streaming.

The drama also includes Fukagawa Mai as Miyauchi Masumi and Moon Ji Hoo as Kang Jun Ho in the support roles. However, details about their characters haven't been revealed as of now.

Speaking of the storyline and the title, Akaso Eiji said in a statement, reported by The Korea Times:

"When I first saw the title, I was curious about what kind of story it would be. The characters are as warm and approachable, as the title suggests. It is a story about people who live sincerely and love sincerely."

However, this is not Kang Hye Won's first Japanese project, as the actress has previously worked in Iz*One, a South Korean-Japanese girl group. Speaking of how her past experience helped her in Gimbap and Onigiri, she added:

"Because I had already worked in Japan, the environment did not feel completely unfamiliar. I also think that if I had not gone to Japan back then, I would not have been able to pick up the language to this level in such a short time."
