Ransom Canyon has turned out to be a major success for Netflix. The show’s romantic storyline in a Yellowstone-like Western setting has won over the audience. However, Netflix has yet to renew the show for a second season, despite its strong viewership.
The creators, meanwhile, are all geared up to work on another season. In an interview with TV Insider, showrunner April Blair has revealed that there would be a time jump of about six months between Ransom Canyon Seasons 1 and 2.
In the season 1 finale, Quinn decided to take up a job in New York and move away from the ranch for a while, which is one of the reasons behind the time leap:
“I think we would probably do that because she says, 'I’m going to go away for six months.' So the idea right now, although nothing’s set in stone, is that we would do at least a six-month time jump.”

April Blair added that she wants to continue to explore the ranch setting and not base the show in New York. That is why the narrative will move forward only when Quinn returns, which would take at least six months in the story:
“We would need to, because I don’t want to do anything in New York. Quinn needs to go away and save her ranch, and we need to see what the implications are for that punch that Davis goads Staten into doing and what that plot between Davis and Staten’s father, the senator, is like.”
At the end of Ransom Canyon Season 1, Quinn decides to leave the town and accepts a job offer in New York, hoping that she will earn enough money to save her dance hall. Meanwhile, the future of her relationship with Staten becomes uncertain as she chooses to move away.
The show premiered in April this year and continues to attract viewers. Though the series has not been officially renewed, Blair revealed that the writers’ room has already begun. She also disclosed that Randall’s death is going to continue to haunt Staten even in the second season:
“We've already started the writers' room, even though the show hasn't been picked up to series yet for Season 2, but we were already grappling with that, and what we wanted to do was kind of put to bed that loss, in a way.”
“Not that Staten will ever get over the loss of his child, but we wanted to give him some hope and a little bit of lightness. Quinn's going to go off to New York and come back. How is he going to win her back if he's still haunted?’
Ransom Canyon stars Josh Duhamel as Staten Kirkland, Minka Kelly as Quinn O'Grady, Lizzy Greene as Lauren Brigman, Marianly Tejada as Ellie Estevez, Eoin Macken as Davis Collins, Garrett Wareing as Lucas Russell, Andrew Liner as Reid Collins, and Jack Schumacher as Yancy Grey.
