What happened in the Godfather of Harlem season 4 episode 6?
Godfather of Harlem is a dramatized account of crime boss Bumpy Johnson’s return to Harlem in the 1960s after a decade in prison. Finding his neighborhood dominated by the Italian mob, he sets out to reclaim control, leading to a confrontation with the powerful Genovese crime family. In his struggle, Bumpy allies with Malcolm X (played by Nigél Thatch), intertwining their fates amid growing social unrest and an escalating mob conflict.
In Season 4, episode 6 of Godfather of Harlem, titled The Visit, Bumpy Johnson faces one of his most critical challenges yet. The episode opens with Bumpy furious over the kidnapping of his trusted lieutenant, Chance, by rival mob boss Joe Colombo. Desperate to get Chance back, Bumpy is confronted with Colombo’s outrageous demand: he must give up a share in all his criminal enterprises to secure Chance’s release.
Tensions rise when Frank Lucas arrives at Bumpy’s headquarters with Colombo’s ultimatum. Bumpy, enraged by the arrogance in Frank’s delivery, orders Nat to kill him. However, Nat hesitates, unwilling to jeopardize Chance’s life. As Bumpy’s anger reaches its peak, he suffers a sudden heart attack, creating enough of a distraction for Frank to slip away unharmed.
Meanwhile, Chance remains Colombo’s prisoner, beaten and tested. During a brief moment alone, Chance speaks freely to Frank, challenging his motives and loyalty. Though Frank appears unfazed by it, his inner conflict becomes apparent. Despite Colombo’s order to kill Bumpy, Frank begins to question his actions.
While Bumpy recovers in the hospital, his only concern is saving Chance. Ignoring medical advice, he demands to leave, but a sedative calms him. The situation escalates further when Frank sneaks into Bumpy’s hospital room, intent on completing his mission. However, Bumpy, anticipating the move, turns the tables.
Inspired by past visions of Malcolm X, Bumpy chooses mercy over violence, sparing Frank’s life. Instead of retaliation, Bumpy sends Frank back to Colombo with a message, indicating he’s willing to negotiate. The episode closes with the power dynamics shifting yet again, as both men prepare for a possible truce or a continued conflict. The Visit highlights not only physical survival but also the emotional and strategic battles within Harlem’s criminal underworld.
