Prime Video has released the official trailer for The Boys spin-off, Gen V Season 2, along with a release date scheduled for September 17. The official trailer for Gen V Season 2 sets the stage right after the events of The Boys Season 4. As we await the new season's release, here's a look back at the time when writer Tom Schnauz revealed exciting updates about filming for the second season of the spin-off.
Prime Video premiered the first season of The Boys spin-off, titled Gen V, in September 2023, and it was renewed for a second season just a month after the premiere, before the show even aired the finale. Fans had been anxiously waiting for updates on the second season when Tom Schnauz, the Breaking Bad writer, revealed in a conversation with Arc Studio in March 2024 that he had joined as a creative for the second season, and the show was set to start production in a few weeks.
Gen V Throwback: When Breaking Bad writer Tom Schnauz joined the Gen V Season 2 Writers' Table and revealed production updates

It had been more than half a year since the Gen V Season 1 premiere and Season 2 renewal, and fans were anxiously waiting for some update on the new season. In March 2024, Tom Schnauz sat down for a conversation with Arc Studio regarding the writing process involved in creating shows like Breaking Bad.
In this conversation, he revealed that he had joined as a writer on Gen V Season 2, even though he was not a part of the first season. He also added that the show would soon move into production and set up shop in Canada.
"I'm working on a show called Gen V which is aired on Amazon. I did not work on season one. I'm currently helping them with season two, with breaking story, and they start shooting not too long up in Canada. Production starts in probably 2 or 3 weeks."
This production reveal was a positive update for fans, as Season 2 going into production so soon meant it would also make it to their screens very quickly. At the time, it was predicted that this production timeline could lead to a 2025 release expectation for the second season.
It appears the initial predictions were true, as the latest trailer drop from Prime Video revealed that Gen V Season 2 will premiere on September 17, 2025.
What can we expect from Gen V Season 2
In a conversation with Variety, Gen V showrunner Eric Kripke revealed that the events of Gen V Season 2 are set right after the events of The Boys Season 4. The upcoming Season 2 description reads, In Season 2:
"School is back in session. As the rest of America adjusts to Homelander’s iron fist, back at Godolkin University, the mysterious new dean (Linklater) preaches a curriculum that promises to make students more powerful than ever. Cate (Phillips) and Sam (Asa Germann) are celebrated heroes, while Marie (Sinclair), Jordan (Thor), and Emma (Lizze Broadway) reluctantly return to college, burdened by months of trauma and loss. "
It continues to read:
"But parties and classes are hard to care about with war brewing between humans and supes, both on and off campus. The gang learns of a secret program that goes back to the founding of Godolkin University that may have larger implications than they realize. And, somehow, Marie is a part of it."
The Gen V Season 2 trailer also revealed a surprise visit from The Boys' supe Starlight asking Marie for help. We last saw Annie January in The Boys Season 4 finale as she flew off while the rest of the gang was arrested under "Homelander's iron fist." Tensions are at their highest between supes and humans, and the gang ends up finding out about a secret military project ongoing at Godolkin. As they gear up to stop it, a much deeper conflict is revealed.
In another surprise, we also see (not hear) Nathan Mitchell's Black Noir in the trailer, making him the second supe from the original series to make an appearance. Chace Crawford's Deep is also rumored to appear in the second season of Gen V.
To wrap up, there are two new major additions to the Gen V Season 2 cast: Ethan Slater from Wicked as Thomas Godolkin, the founder of Godolkin University, and Hamish Linklater as the new dean at Godolkin, in place of Dean Shetty. It appears as if the new dean, Dean Cipher, wants to level the students up from "mediocrity" and introduce a new regimen to implement his goals.
Gen V Season 2 premieres with three episodes on September 17 and then follows a weekly release schedule, setting up the season finale for October 22.
