A love triangle is a classic plot device in drama, and for Blair and Serena, it’s more a battle of pride than affection. But the one concerning Blair and Serena over Dan is more of a manipulative power play than a hostile one. Although Blair initially tries to patch things up between Dan and Serena, she gradually begins developing feelings for Dan in the process. And just when she and Dan engage in a kiss, Serena unexpectedly walks in and catches sight of it. When Serena confronts Blair, asking about her true emotions for Dan, Blair tries to sweep the whole thing under the rug by claiming that it is all platonic.

To prove it, Blair takes part in a rehearsal for Dan’s play where she is to perform a scene with him. During the run-through, Blair shows how Lola’s character, Claire, should kiss Dan’s character, Dylan, and soon the staged act turns into a passionate one. At that precise instant, Serena enters the room and witnesses Blair and her former lover, Dan, kissing for the second time. Even after this, when Blair denies having any romantic interest in Dan, pointing out her existing complications with Chuck and Louis, Serena feels betrayed and calls her out for being dishonest. This gives way to yet another strain in their relationship.

The fight between Blair and Serena in Season 2, Episode 6, has to be one of the most brutal and dramatic confrontations in the entire series. We'd seen Blair, being the ambitious and methodical “it girl” she was, always aiming to end up at Yale. However, things take a tense turn when Blair questions Serena’s capabilities, indirectly provoking her to accept Dean Berube’s handwritten invitation to visit Yale. Initially, Serena had planned to make a trip to Brown and even confessed to Lily that she could never come between Blair and her lifelong dream of studying at Yale, but feeling hurt by Blair’s behaviour towards her, she decided to teach her a lesson.

At the Dean's office, Serena impressed him with her effortless charm and spontaneity, securing a personal invitation to an intimate gathering which left Blair jealous and fuming with anger. When Blair shows up at the Dean's party, the strain between them intensifies: Blair further tries to humiliate Serena, Serena attempts to steal Blair's answer, and Blair counters by making a mention of a dark moment from Serena's past. As the two take it outside, it quickly turns into a physical fight when Blair throws her purse at Serena. In the heat of the moment, Serena grabs Blair's headband, exclaiming, "I hate that stupid headband!" This episode vividly brings forward the more troubling side of their friendship, laden with betrayal, insecurities, and unresolved resentments.

The intense brawl between Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen during the Ivy Week at Constance Billard School remains one of the earliest and most iconic ones, exposing the depth of their rivalry. As it was an important week for the school with college representatives coming in, the students were under immense pressure. However, Serena’s abrupt return to the Upper East Side reignited old grudges between her and Blair, especially due to Serena’s involvement with Nate, Blair’s boyfriend back in the day. Hurt and on edge, Blair fails to hide her anger towards Serena during the field hockey match, and as a result, the game turns into their war zone.

Blair unapologetically targets Serena, strategically delivering a series of blows with her hockey stick, and despite receiving numerous penalties, she does not stop. Serena, on the other hand, tries to remain calm at first, politely asking Blair to back off. But when Blair deliberately lands another pointed strike, Serena strikes back, knocking Blair to the ground. This quickly escalates into a fierce fight, as the two girls try to hit each other with their classmates watching in absolute bewilderment. This scene perfectly captures the volatile and unpredictable nature of Serena and Blair's relationship, setting the stage for their complicated yet intertwined storyline to unfold throughout the series.

As a result, Serena ends up impressing Blair's mother and the photographer with her natural charm, and they replace Blair with her. However, Serena is denied admittance by Juliet, who claims that only one key is left and gives it away to Blair. Serena accepts it at first, but then she spots another student being given a key the same day and goes on to confront Juliet about her lie. When Juliet further lies to Serena, telling her that Blair may have ruined her chances by leaking the news of a past scandal to the board, Serena understands that Juliet is scheming to turn her against Blair.

Thus, Blair and Serena come up with a plan to reveal Juliet's manipulative tactics. At the Fashion’s Night Out event, Juliet enthusiastically livestreams a heated argument between Blair and Serena, convinced she’s revealing cracks in their friendship.
