Renowned for winning Top Chef Season 10 and serving as the show's current host, Kristen Kish has seen a dramatic shift in kitchen culture over the years. In a recent ASMR cooking video, Kish discussed this transition and emphasized how professional kitchens are becoming more courteous and compassionate. She observed that chefs nowadays are becoming more circumspect and refraining from actions that were once typical.

"I think it's gotten a lot more kind. I think it's gotten a lot more respectful. Chefs now are scred so they don't mess up and maybe partake in bad behaviour that they wanted to in the past," Top Chef host Kish remarked during the video.

In addition to her comments on the shifting kitchen culture, Kristen Kish has significant personal history that informs her approach to mentorship and leadership in the culinary world. As owner and chef at Arlo Grey in Austin, Texas, Kish has gone out of her way to make her kitchen a warm, respectful and welcoming space.

She promotes open communication, respect for one another, and the value of kindness over mere niceness among her team members. This approach is rooted in her personal experiences and her desire to foster a nurturing environment, in contrast to the traditionally demanding and often toxic kitchen culture.
