Over the years, Peaky Blinders has cemented its position as one of the most popular shows in television history. Led by star Cillian Murphy as the formidable Tommy Shelby, Peaky Blinders ran its course for six seasons. While recently speaking with Josh Horowitz on his podcast Happy Sad Confused on his YouTube channel, Cillian Murphy reacted to and broke down what the internet believes are the most favourite scenes from Peaky Blinders.
At the beginning of the podcast, Josh Horowitz asked Cillian Murphy how he felt knowing that the character of Tommy Shelby has been "immortalized" by several people wearing his face on tattoos. With his characteristic charm and nonchalance, Murphy brushed it off as "accidental".
Horowitz then proceeded to state for the record that he and his team had carried out a survey asking the internet about their favourite scenes from Peaky Blinders, to which the internet most happily obliged.
Here's everything that we know.
Cillian Murphy reacts to the most fan-favorite scenes from Peaky Blinders
Keep reading to learn more about the three most fan-favourite scenes from Peaky Blinders according to the internet and what Murphy had to say about each of them.
1) "Already broken"
This particular scene is from the second episode of the debut season of the show. According to the internet, this scene featuring Annabelle Wallis and Cillian Murphy tops the charts when it comes to counting down the favorite scenes. When asked about his take on this particular moment from the show, Murphy attributed the popularity of the scene to the "great writing" that backed his performance. He remarked:
"Great, great writing and really well directed. Annabelle was great in this and it was just a...kind of a good scene."
Murphy further added that Wallis' acting was phenomenal in the scene, along with great direction. He revealed that Otto Batthurst, the director of that episode, had personally reached out to him with an edited version of the scene once it was filmed, stating that it felt "special".
2) Tommy Shelby escapes death
Another memorable moment from the show is from the second season finale episode. Things come to a head following the murder of Major Campbell by Aunt Polly. On the other hand, three men escort Tommy to a desolate field, and the audience is led to believe that this is where he must meet his maker.
Resigned to his fate, Tommy is then seen casually lighting a cigarette and recollecting the oft-repeated lines "In the bleak mid-winter...". However, in a shocking twist, it is then revealed that one of the three men is acting on behalf of Winston Churchill, as he shoots down the other two. He then lets Tommy go, remarking that Mr. Churchill would like to meet him in person.
Horowitz asked Murphy about what was going through Tommy's mind while enacting this scene. Murphy stated that he was so much into character that he didn't feel anything else! He also added that at that point, Tommy rather wished to be dead than alive.
3) "No fighting"
This hilarious scene is from the premiere episode of the show's third season. Murphy recalled that before filming this scene, the script that was handed down to him contained a stage reaction stating that this was Tommy Shelby at his angriest. He once again thanked the director of that episode, Tim Mielants, adding that it was quite funny on his part while at the same time the lines spoken illustrated that Tommy means business.
