Grey’s Anatomy wrapped up Season 21 and, in its signature style, the acclaimed medical drama left the audience stunned. The final and eighteenth episode, titled How Do I Live?, was an absolute mayhem comprising a hostage situation, confession of love, and a shocking cliffhanger. The doctors at Grey Sloan are caught between life and death cases while dealing with personal challenges.
Love and its many challenges
Nora, who had confessed her love for Owen to his wife Teddy’s disappointment, is about to go into a complicated surgery. Teddy is aware of her patient’s history with her husband and is caught in a moral dilemma. While Teddy wants to know Owen’s true feelings, he initially keeps deflecting.
With the help of Winston, Teddy performs the stapling procedure to save Nora’s life. Owen finally confesses that he has feelings for Nora but he wants to be with Teddy because of the life they shared together. Teddy, however, decides that she cannot be with him anymore. By the end, it would appear that the two have parted ways.
Meanwhile, newlyweds Jo and Link are oblivious to the drama happening in the hospital. They were unable to take off for honeymoon, so they make out in a storage room. When they emerge, they quickly get acquainted with the hostage situation.
Winston and Jules have been sharing an 'will they, won’t they' vibe. Jules asks him to take her on his service again, but he refuses. He says that the lines are getting blurred between them.
Catastrophic explosion
Jenna, the mother of a patient of Amelia’s, is getting restless. She had rolled in a tank of acetylene that she stole from her contractor husband into the OR. She forces the doctor to operate on her child, Dylan, urgently and threatens to blow up the place with a gas tank if they don’t.
Jenna takes the doctors including Amelia, Simone, and Lucas hostage in the OR. Meredith happened to be in the hospital to sell her shares to help fund her Alzheimer’s research. She along with the others inform the police of the development.
The operation is carried out under a tense environment. When the child being operated starts bleeding again, Meredith comes in to help with fresh frozen plasma. Amelia manages to successfully operate on the child. As the police enter to arrest Jenna, she reveals that the gas tank was empty after all. But then her husband, Aaron, shocks everyone when he reveals that the gas tank is full and it will blow up. Immediately Amelia sends Lucas to warn everyone.
Link had just learnt that he and Jo will have twin girls. He was going to perform a surgery when there is a sudden explosion in the hospital, with fire and shattered glass all around. Ben is seen running towards the building, leaving the audience in the dark on what happened and who survived.
