Blue and Jules challenge the system in Grey's Anatomy Season 22 episode 5

Another major plot of Grey's Anatomy Season 22 episode 5 is Jules and Blue's brave take on the system. They are those surgical residents at the hospital who care about how broken and unfair the healthcare system can be, especially for vulnerable people.

Their patient, Mercedes, has diabetes but hasn’t been able to afford her medication or keep up with doctor visits. Concerned, Blue and Jules decide to visit her at home, knowing that doing so could get them in trouble with hospital authorities.

When the two arrive at her house, they discover that an untreated cut on Mercedes's foot has become seriously infected. To make it even more complicated, Mercedes refuses to get admitted to the hospital.

The reason? She lost her immigration status and fears being reported to ICE. Notably, this isn't something that happens in TV shows, but it is also a real-life struggle for many people in America who have to make tough choices between safety, health, and survival.

Blue had many doubts in mind, but finally called Dr. Bailey for help. Though Bailey is also frustrated with the system, her priority is to save people and currently, Mercedes. Luckily, they succeed in treating her and Blue and Jules don't have to face any consequences.
