Grosse Pointe Garden Society is a dark comedy drama series that released on NBC on February 23, 2025. Created by Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs, it revolves around four members of a Grosse Pointe, Michigan suburban garden club who find themselves unexpectedly intermixed with a scandal and a murky murder, unpicking their seemingly perfect identities.

The main characters: Birdie, played by Melissa Fumero, Alice played by AnnaSophia Robb, Brett, played by Ben Rappaport, and Catherine played by Aja Naomi King—are all having their own problems that they are trying to force into the confines of what looks "nice" to the rest of the world. Birdie is a bestselling author but is self-destructive; Alice is a high school English teacher and thinks her life is over after her dog is murdered; Brett is a divorced father who gave up his own dreams for his wife's career; and Catherine is a real estate agent who is in a loveless marriage but is always looking for love in the wrong places.

The series combines tension and dark satire, portraying a suspenseful yet satirical view of idyllic suburban normalcy. The series shares quite a lot of themes with shows like Desperate Housewives: there are a number of nuanced plots and two timelines in the story and we are, as viewers, left to comprehend how the events surrounding a murder took shape.

Throughout the season, the group gets wrapped up in the cover-up of a murder. This fiasco leads them to be put through a series of potential events that test each person's loyalty and morals.

In the finale, Alice’s dog Molly is accidentally killed by garden club president Marilyn, who mistakes the dog for a coyote stalking her cat. Meanwhile, a private investigator hired to expose the group’s secrets suffers a heart attack while confronting them — leaving the women to decide whether or not to help him.

Grosse Pointe Garden Society deftly peels back the layers of its characters, ultimately removing the polished veneer, and revealing the darkness beneath. Ultimately, we are left wondering, what is true of character and what will be beyond the next season!

What happens at the end of Grosse Pointe Garden Society's first season?

In the finale of Grosse Pointe Garden Society's first season, the series delivers its strongest payoff and departs with an unexpected turn of events from the intricately developed plotlines throughout the season when Keith, Patty's husband and Alice's father-in-law, accidentally dies.

Keith's accidental death occurs in a confrontation at the garden center, where Alice, with Brett, Birdie, and Catherine, are ready to destroy Patty's beloved quilt for past grievances. Keith makes an unexpected arrival and is trying to save the quilt from a wood chipper when he loses his footing and is impaled on a garden implement with a fatal outcome, dying in the very place that had come to symbolize both the group's unity and unraveling.

There had also been speculation surrounding Quiche’s death, with fans debating whether it was murder — until episode 11 reveals it was a tragic accident, and that Quiche was actually Keith, Doug’s father.

The ending montage is eerie; Patty sleeps unconcerned with her husband's final fate; Connor, alone in a sterile hotel room; Doug's letter waits for Alice to read; and Keith's lifeless body waits at the garden center. This ending not only illustrates the show's themes of the dark side of suburban perfection but leaves viewers with a moment to ponder about the characters' consequences in season 2.

The Grosse Pointe Garden Society season 1 finale doesn’t just wrap things up, it flings open the door for a juicy, drama-packed season 2. Just when you think the worst is over, the final few scenes throw in a twisty mix of secrets, tension, and big question marks. First off, that wild Halloween party? Yeah, not just about cute costumes and punch. Birdie, Brett, and Catherine confront someone in a duck suit and accuse them of betrayal. Who’s under the mask? We’re left hanging.

Then there’s the private investigator, the guy everyone thought was done for, waking up in the hospital. That’s a huge red flag because he knows way too much about everyone. Meanwhile, Alice almost turns herself in to the cops, but Joel, who is the adoptive father of Melissa's biological son, swoops in and stops her. Is he helping her… or hiding something of his own?

Basically, the finale throws out just enough chaos and unanswered questions to make sure we’re all desperate for more. With lies still buried (and a body, too), shady alliances, and a killer duck mystery, season 2 is set to get even messier, and we’re so here for it.
