Trinity is an upcoming compelling new military-political thriller developed by Jed Mercurio. He’s the creator of Bodyguard and Line of Duty and has formally announced the release of Trinity on Netflix. The eight-episode series will star acclaimed actors Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Richard Madden and will be produced by 20th Television and Hat Trick Mercurio Productions.
Trinity is set against the backdrop of escalating geopolitical tensions. It majorly follows Commander Katherine Decker (Mbatha-Raw) who is the second-in-command of the nuclear submarine, USS Kansas.
On July 7, 2025, filming will start in Vancouver, with a four-month production schedule.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw
This is Gugu Mbatha-Raw's sixth significant cooperation with Netflix. Mbatha-Raw, known for her versatility and elegance on screen, rose to prominence as Tish Jones in Doctor Who before receiving critical acclaim for her main performances in Belle (2013) and Beyond the Lights (2014).
She's also starred on The Morning Show, Surface, and Marvel's Loki. This has demonstrated her flexibility across genres. Her performance in the play Nell Gwynn won her a Best Actress nomination at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards. Her work in dramas have earned her an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in 2017.
Richard Madden
Richard Madden rocketed to global prominence as Robb Stark on HBO's Game of Thrones and this was mainly followed by a Golden Globe-winning performance in Bodyguard, which was also developed by Mercurio.
His outstanding career has included prominent appearances in Rocketman, 1917, Disney's live-action Cinderella, and Marvel's Eternals and he most recently appeared in Amazon Prime's Citadel. This primarily cemented his reputation as a versatile leading man.
Directors of the show
Michael Cuesta, who helmed Homeland and Dexter, is slated to direct the series. Alongside Loren Yaconelli (Shameless, The Walking Dead: Dead City), he will executive produce and direct the first two episodes of the show.
Michael Cuesta, an American filmmaker and writer, is well-known for his film and television work. He is known for his strong storytelling and creative vision. He began with the award-winning film L.I.E. in 2001.
Cuesta has directed episodes of popular TV programs like Dexter, Homeland, Six Feet Under, and Blue Bloods. He also directed the films 12 and Holding, Roadie, and Kill the Messenger, which starred Jeremy Renner.
Trinity promises a mix of high-stakes political intrigue, character-driven drama, and suspense. The show is set to be a notable addition to Netflix's 2026 roster.
