Game of Thrones captivated the audience in the last decade. Fans still re-watch it multiple times and can't get enough of the available and announced prequels and sequels.
Now, there is one known name that comes to the forefront yet again. Sophie Turner has finally spoken up about the idea of making a comeback as Sansa Stark, and her answers are extremely honest and on brand.
While in an interview with The Direct during the promotion of her Amazon Prime Video film Steal, Sophie Turner did not beat around the bush when answering the question:
"Show me the money (laughs). I don t know, I think it would be hard but also amazing to come back to it."
Sophie Turner sounds torn, and that honesty matters
Turner was asked directly how interested she would be in returning as Sansa Stark, especially after George R. R. Martin confirmed that some Game of Thrones spin-offs in development are sequels, not just prequels.

Sophie Turner explained that coming back would not be simple because Sansa's ending already felt complete to her. Turner told The Direct,
"But I feel that I was very happy with the way Sansa ended her story in Game of Thrones, and no one else was really happy with their ending. I feel like I got a good one, and so I don t know if I could revisit it."
That is a big statement, especially considering how divisive Season 8 was.
Sansa ended the series as Queen in the North, ruling an independent kingdom after years of loss, abuse, and political games. For Turner, that arc clearly feels earned. There is pride there, and also protectiveness. She does not want to reopen something just for the sake of nostalgia and risk undoing what worked.
At the same time, she did not shut the door. Turner added,
"Maybe it would be an utter joy, or maybe it would be trying to cling on to something that was magic back in the day that can t be recreated. I would have to see a script."
For Sophie Turner, her comeback is not just about the hype or nostalgia bait, but it is about whether the story deserves to exist or not.
Why Sansa Stark's ending makes a return tricky for Game of Thrones
To understand Turner's hesitation, you have to look at where Sansa Stark ended up. Over eight seasons of Game of Thrones, Sansa went from a sheltered teenager dreaming of court life to one of the sharpest political minds in Westeros. Her final position was not accidental. It was the result of years of survival.

By the end of the series, Sansa had seen the worst of power up close. Kings died, queens burned cities, and loyalty all came at a cost. When Daenerys fell, and Bran was chosen as king, Sansa did something rare in Westeros. She asked for independence and got it. The North became its own kingdom again, and Sansa was crowned Queen in the North at Winterfell.
For Sophie Turner, the ending to Sansa's character is closed. Sansa is not mid-journey anymore. She is settled, ruling, and finally safe on her own terms. Bringing her back means finding a reason strong enough to pull her out of that stability without cheapening it.
Turner clearly understands the risk that comes along with a character so famous making a comeback into the Game of Thrones universe. Her interview answer clearly points fingers at how Sansa's return cannot just come ahead due to HBO simply wanting to put out more content.
If Sansa does indeed make a return to the world, it has to say something new about what Sansa could now have to offer to the universe, or else Sophie Turner would rather have her character left untouched.
Sophie Turner is clearly not chasing a huge Game of Thrones comeback, but she is not running away from it either.
If the character returns, it will be because the story feels earned. Until then, the Queen in the North remains exactly where she belongs. Guarded and very much unforgettable.
