The new Harry Potter TV series has been a point of contention for many reasons, but it may also be a treat for fans of the original books, which included far broader storylines than what the movies could show.
The movies were roughly two to three hours long. They hoped to capture the magical world of Hogwarts as faithfully and creatively as they could. That's why they have dedicated fans revisiting them year after year. The same fans were not pleased with the idea of reimagining a world that has already been brought to screens in one form.
Unlike them, some fans of the books were pleased to hear that the series will reportedly have eight hours' worth of episodic content in its first season, which means there will be far more to see in Harry's first year at Hogwarts than what Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone could showcase in its 152 minutes of runtime.
It can offer an opportunity to explore some parts of the source material even further than what movies could do. It can expand on some of the themes of friendship while shedding light on some of the lesser-known characters for movie fans instead of book fans. One of these characters includes a member of the Weasley family, Charlie Weasley.
Charlie Weasley will be a bigger part of the Harry Potter TV series than the movie adaptations
The movie adaptations of Harry Potter that began coming out in the early aughts showed some members of the Weasley family. Ron Weasley was definitely one of them. He was also at the front and center of the narrative, alongside Harry and Hermione, fighting the odds in their school. George also left a mark on those movies, besides his twin wizard brother, Fred.
Ginny Weasley was present in the wizarding school as one of the children of Arthur and Molly, who were also represented in those movies. William Weasley was briefly shown, but Charlie Weasley was barely mentioned, which felt like a missed opportunity for the source material fans, since they knew how much this brother meant to Ron.
In the TV series, the Weasley family member will be represented, according to Collider. Speaking about the casting choices, Gracie Cochrane has been cast as Ginny, Ruari Spooner as Percy, George as Gabriel Harland, and Tristan Harland as Fred.
While the actor playing Charlie has not been announced yet, Collider reports that he will be a part of the new TV show.
Otherwise, Dominic McLaughlin is taking over the role of Harry Potter from Daniel Radcliffe, while Alastair Stout will play Ron, previously played by Rupert Grint. Arabella Stanton is entering the world as Hermione, years after Emma Watson turned this part of the magical trio iconic.
John Lithgow will play Albus Dumbledore after Richard Harris and Michael Gambon, while Paapa Essiedu will star as Severus Snape after Alan Rickman. Apart from them, Janet McTeer is taking over Maggie Smith's older role of Minerva McGonagall, while Nick Frost will play Robbie Coltrane's iconic character, Rubeus Hagrid, and Lox Pratt has been cast as Draco Malfoy.
