The Harry Potter TV series has the indomitable task in front of it to recreate a world that has been perceived and imagined a certain way for decades. While the show has the added pro of the chance to add every little nook and cranny about the wizarding world that had to be left behind to make the movie concise, it can't help but face constant comparisons with the movies.
So, with every new set image leaked from the TV series' production, an unavoidable comparison ensued with the movies and the similarities or differences between the two. Here's what the latest round of set photos has added to the comparison between the wizarding world's past and its future.
Leaked pictures from the sets of the Harry Potter TV series reveal a brand-new location
The Harry Potter TV series is currently in production for the first season of the show, adapted from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, set to release in 2027. Apart from the scenes featuring Dumbledore on the beach, the filming has been going as per the events of the book.
Harry's first proper impression of the magical world, except for Hagrid, is Diagon Alley, where Hagrid takes him to buy his supplies for Hogwarts before taking him to the station to get aboard the Hogwarts Express. The latest leaked set pictures from the TV series show the newly constructed Diagon Alley.
The pictures feature the different shops on Diagon Alley being built, only some of which Harry will be visiting as per the books. Some of the shops that can be seen are "Quality QUIDDITCH Supplies," "PRIMPERNELLE'S," and "GLISSANDO'S." Most of these shops were never particularly seen in the films. The Harry Potter TV series has the added chance to bring to life everything that was a part of the books and couldn't be seen in the films due to time restrictions.
The shop Primpernelle's, a potions shop specializing in the beautifying department, was first mentioned in J.K. Rowling's The Daily Prophet Newsletters, a series of four real-world newsletters exclusively for the Bloomsbury's Official Harry Potter Fan Club (1998-99). At the same time, Glissando's is a brand-new addition to the world.
The latest pictures have people comparing the new Diagon Alley with the one in the films. While most of what we've seen from the set leaks so far looks more or less similar to the movies, the colors of Diagon Alley are much brighter and stranger in the new leaked pictures, but only time will tell what the final results look like. Hopefully, the series will properly bring to life the awe that Harry felt, walking into Diagon Alley for the very first time:
"Harry wished he had about eight more eyes. He turned his head in every direction as they walked up the street, trying to look at everything at once: the shops, the things outside them, the people doing their shopping."
A lot of these set pictures have people questioning the point of the series if it is the same as the films, but it does have the unique chance to further flesh out Diagon Alley and the rest of the wizarding world while staying completely faithful to the books and other parts of the fictional universe as created by the author over the years.
