Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking whipped up its second season on Food Network, debuting Sunday, November 2, and yes, the Phelps twins are still stirring up magic. Oliver and James, forever known as Fred and George Weasley, spent promo week reminiscing about the castmates who made the Hogwarts years unforgettable. In a quick 63-second clip posted to Food Network’s Instagram, a fan asked which co-stars inspired them the most, and their answers hit right in the feels.

Oliver gave a shout-out to Julie Walters for basically being everyone’s on-set mom, while James talked about Dame Maggie Smith’s no-nonsense brilliance and Michael Gambon’s endless kindness. Both actors have since passed, making the twins’ reflections feel especially tender.

It was a rare peek behind the curtain, less spell casting, more genuine admiration, showing how much those film legends shaped two mischievous red-headed wizards who now trade butterbeer for buttercream. Even with all the baking buzz, it’s clear Hogwarts still has its heart.

Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking: Which Harry Potter cast members did Oliver and James look up to?

When asked which cast member inspired him most, Oliver immediately named Julie Walters. The 75-year-old actress portrayed Molly Weasley, the on-screen mother to Oliver and James's characters. Oliver said:

"We had a lot of icons when we were filming Harry Potter. One who inspired me would probably have to be Julie Walters."

Walters apparently extended her maternal role beyond what the script required. Oliver explained that she "looked after us on set" and provided valuable guidance during production, adding:

"She gave us good advice and she helped us out."

Her support clearly made a lasting impact on the young actor navigating a major film franchise. James took a different approach, naming two late actors who exemplified excellence in their craft. His first choice was Dame Maggie Smith, who died in 2024 at age 89 after playing Professor Minerva McGonagall throughout the series. James recalled:

"The way that Maggie Smith would act off camera, she was always on time, always polite to anybody on the set."

James could not stop complimenting Dame Maggie Smith, the epitome of how to be both renowned and modest. He claimed that regardless of who was in charge of the boom mike or a main actor, she treated everyone on set equally. She came up, knew her lines, never rolled her eyes, and just performed every scene flawlessly; no drama, no diva movements, just pure elegance.

Maggie never played that game, James said, in a field where egos may occasionally overshadow the lights. She was a complete legend who demonstrated that you don't have to behave like royalty to be recognised as such. She was the serenity in the midst of pandemonium.

Remembering Michael Gambon’s generosity

James Phelps took a moment to remember the late Michael Gambon, the legendary actor who stepped into Dumbledore’s robes after Richard Harris and somehow made wisdom look both magical and mischievous. Gambon, who passed away in 2023 at 82, wasn’t just a powerhouse on screen; he was apparently hilarious off it, too.

James remembered how Gambon would give up everything, including his script, to assist a younger actor in mastering a challenging part; he had no ego, just generosity wrapped in dry British humour. James stated that he will always be thankful for the time they spent together, indicating that those memories clearly resonated with him.

On Sunday, November 9, the second episode of Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking, in which the Phelps twins combine magic with meringue to preserve the Hogwarts spirit one tasty spell at a time, aired. The recollection felt particularly appropriate.
