FBI, the CBS procedural drama, has just returned for Season 8 on October 13, and a character has already died in the show. Created by Dick Wolf, the series follows agents in the New York field office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation as they protect the city from high-level threats.
Season 8’s premiere has already shocked fans with the death of a major character, Dani, played by Emily Alabi. With Dani's death, Alabi has thus left the show, and her character's death will affect how the season goes in major ways.
Is Emily Alabi leaving FBI?
The new season of FBI is set mere days after the last events of Season 7. We see Maggie and OA trapped on an island while trying to close a tense case, setting up an unexpected order of events. Scola and Dani rush to assist them, but the mission quickly spirals out of control. The FBI SWAT team must reach the island by water after the only bridge connecting it to the mainland is destroyed.
However, when they dock, they are ambushed by armed locals. During the firing from both sides that ensues, Dani is hit by a bullet. She initially believes her protective vest absorbed the impact, but it turns out, it hadn't, and she was seriously wounded in the abdomen. Dani collapses just as the situation begins to calm down.
The episode delivers one good news, which is followed by a bad one. While Isobel regains consciousness in the hospital, Dani tragically dies on the island. Dani’s death is an impactful one, especially because she was a relatively new character in the series. Played by Emily Alabi, Dani joined the show late in Season 7 after Stuart Scola’s previous partners failed to connect with both him and the audience. Her strong chemistry with Scola made her an instant fan favourite.
Her tragic death and sudden exit are unfortunate events for the fans who have loved her presence in the show. Although CBS has not released an official statement regarding Alabi’s departure, the emotional nature of Dani’s death suggests that the actress has indeed left FBI. Still, her death in the line of action is better than an abrupt exit.
Looking ahead, FBI will introduce a new character played by Juliana Aidén Martinez, who is expected to become Scola’s new partner. Details about her role have yet to be revealed, but it will be difficult for fans to accept someone new soon after Dani's death.
Despite recent changes, FBI remains CBS’ top-rated drama, outperforming even Dick Wolf’s other franchises like Law & Order and One Chicago. The network recently cancelled FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted, which has now given the flagship series more attention. A third spinoff, CIA, is already in development but will not premiere until mid-season, giving the flagship series the spotlight for quite some time in the 2025–2026 broadcast schedule.
With FBI now airing on Monday nights, fans are eager to see how the team rebuilds after Dani’s tragic death. While it won't be easy to watch the show without her, something or the other new will surely happen, and fans will hopefully move on from Dani's death while remembering her dearly. New episodes of FBI come out every Monday on CBS at 9 pm ET. You can stream released episodes of the show on Paramount+.
