Some rumors flicker and fade in the Star Wars galaxy, and the latest is a hushed but growing belief that Ewan McGregor may once again ignite Obi-Wan Kenobi’s blue blade. This time in the orbit of Ahsoka season 2.

Recent buzz from Fan Expo Boston had Star Wars fans convinced Ewan McGregor had just spilled the beans about appearing in Ahsoka season 2. According to Nexus Point News, he reportedly said,

“We begin shooting season two [of Ahsoka] soon, wait, was I supposed to say that?”

But it turns out the quote may have been taken out of context. McGregor was at the event with Hayden Christensen for a panel, but no recordings were allowed. Without footage, the story rests on eyewitness accounts, and many of those witnesses, says the comment, weren’t about him at all.

According to Screen Rant, McGregor was talking about his wife, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who plays Hera Syndulla in Ahsoka. She’s confirmed to return for season 2, and McGregor joked about FaceTiming her.

Production on Ahsoka season 2 began in April, though it’s unclear if Winstead has started filming. As for the word “we,” several journalists at the panel say they never heard him use it, suggesting this “leak” might just be another case of overexcited mishearing in a galaxy far, far away.

By the time filming kicked off in April 2025, Dave Filoni had every beat of Ahsoka season 2 mapped out, with all eight episodes locked and loaded. This next chapter in the Star Wars timeline runs alongside The Mandalorian but isn’t afraid to drift light-years away. Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren are still marooned in a far-off galaxy, facing dangers that make their last adventure look like a warm-up. Back home, Grand Admiral Thrawn is busy uniting the scraps of the Empire, calling in the Nightsisters for backup, and setting his sights on the New Republic, now led into battle by Admiral Ackbar.

Rosario Dawson once again stars as Ahsoka, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Ivanna Sakhno, Eman Esfandi, and Hayden Christensen returning to keep the story anchored in familiar faces. The late Ray Stevenson’s character, Baylan Skoll, is now played by Rory McCann, whose casting was announced at Star Wars Celebration Japan. Filoni describes Baylan as a mirror to Ahsoka, a Jedi on a completely different path.

The show’s roots trace back to Star Wars Rebels, with the first season essentially acting as a continuation of that animated story. Fans will see familiar faces, including Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger, Chopper, Huyang, Zeb Orrelios, and even Admiral Ackbar, crafted with prosthetics faithful to his Return of the Jedi design.

Lucasfilm confirmed Ahsoka Season 2 in January 2024, after Filoni, newly appointed as chief creative officer, chose to prioritize it over his planned Mandalorian-era crossover film. Produced by Lucasfilm and Golem Creations, the series continues to blend puppetry, animatronics, and VFX magic, right down to rolling loth-kittens who aren’t quite steady on their legs.

Ahsoka Season 2 is expected to release in 2026.
