Fans of Goosebumps are in for some bad news as the series has been canceled by Disney+ despite having two well performing seasons, as Variety reported. The second season, titled Goosebumps: The Vanishing, premiered in January 2025 and took the top 10 spot both on Hulu and Disney+.

However, despite its cancellation by Disney+, Sony Pictures Television will reportedly be taking the show to other streamers and also explore a different creative direction for the show.

The first season of the horror anthology series consisted of 10 episodes and premiered back in 2023 and witnessed success. The second season consisted of 8 episodes with a whole new cast and performed well both with the audience and the critics. However, now that the show has been canceled, it remains to be seen if the show manages to find home on another platform.

Goosebumps might find another home after its cancellation by Disney+

As mentioned previously Goosebumps was canceled after its two season run. The renewal or cancellation of a show generally depends on its ratings and performance, both of which were positive in the case of this series. With both seasons combined, the series holds 75 million hours viewed in the U.S and 16 additional markets adds another 43 hours of viewership.

Despite having such a good track record, the exact reason behind the cancellation has not been revealed yet. Both the seasons of the anthology featured great star casts, with season 1 having actors like Justin Long, Zack Morris, Rachael Harris, Miles McKenna, Isa Briones on board.

The second season featured an entirely different ensemble consisting of David Schwimmer, Jayden Bartels, Elijah M. Cooper, Ana Ortiz, Sam McCarthy, Francesca Noel to name a few.

Based on R.L. Stine’s book series, the television adaptation was developed by Nicholas Stoller and Rob Letterman and Hilary Winston served as the executive producer and showrunner.

While the show stands canceled, Stine had previously told Deadline in January 2025 that he looks forward to seeing what happens next after the second installment. He said:

“Well, they’ve kind of done my favorites. They did The Haunted Mask in the first season, and they’ve done all the Slappy stuff in the first season, so they’ve kind of done it.”

He further added:

“At some point, I would like to see maybe some of the newer Goosebumps. You know, I’m still going. I just signed on to write six more books, six more Goosebumps books. So, I’d love to see some of the newer stuff.”

With the author still going on with the books and the production house trying to find another home for the series, it would be interesting to see how things turn out for the show, going forward.

Goosebumps can be streamed on Disney+.
